Hackney is one of the most dynamic and progressive local authorities in the UK. We are a resilient, vibrant, and creative borough in the heart of London, with strong, diverse communities and a powerful set of shared values. Over the past twenty years, the Council has built up first‑class services, outstanding public infrastructure, and a reputation for excellence, innovation, and ambition. We are leading the way on essential work such as our fight for equity in Hackney with a particular focus on becoming an actively anti‑racist borough. The work doesn’t stop there; we are proactive in bringing fairness to all aspects of life, including gender, neurodiversity and across the poverty divide.

Hackney Museum is looking for a dynamic Schools Officer to bring the borough’s global histories to life for the next generation. As an asset for local communities, Hackney Museum celebrates the diverse roots of everyone who lives in Hackney. Our collections date from prehistory to the present day and represent the everyday lives of the borough’s people, many of whom have migrated from all over the world. If you are ready to use our collections to empower young voices and create inclusive learning experiences, we want to hear from you. You will join our small team at an exciting time as we deliver our £2.9m redevelopment project, supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, which will redesign the permanent galleries and influence the new schools programme; due to open in 2027.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Museum Learning Producer, Museum Officer, Project Curator and education stakeholders to redesign the schools programme.
  • Deliver sessions to visiting schools, incorporating themes from our new galleries and collections.
  • Create inclusive and engaging learning experiences that reflect the diverse histories of Hackney.
  • Collaborate with museum staff to integrate new collections and exhibitions into school visits.

Application Process

The selection process is fair, open and anonymous. Supporting statements and CVs are not accepted. Instead, applicants will answer a number of competency‑based questions designed to demonstrate suitability for the role.
