The priority will be on the Local Authority Housing Fund (LAHF) Temporary Accommodation (TA) sites, which are properties bought back by the Council for use across the TA portfolio.

The role will involve supervising and managing repair and renewal works across the Borough’s TA properties, assisting in undertaking condition surveys and maintaining robust programmes to ensure statutory compliance. You will support the Strategic Property Services team by providing building surveying and inspection advice, preparing schedules of condition and dilapidation reports, and offering expert technical advice on design, condition, capacity, suitability and statutory compliance of building installations.

Key deliverables include providing expert technical reports, appraisals, measurements, costings and estimates for various surveys such as maintenance repairs, voids, disrepair and minor projects. Your knowledge and technical expertise will contribute to ensuring that Hackney Council can deliver its services and meet corporate objectives across the estate, comprising around 600 mixed-use properties.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and manage repair and renewal works to TA properties.
  • Assist in conducting condition surveys of a wide variety of properties.
  • Maintain robust programmes ensuring all TA properties are compliant with current statutory regulations.
  • Manage the wider team to ensure Council buildings are maintained to agreed standards.
  • Provide building surveying and inspection advice for contractual obligations and schedules of condition.
  • Produce expert technical reports, appraisals, measurements, costings and estimates for maintenance repairs, voids, disrepair and minor projects.

Qualifications:

  • Sound and detailed knowledge of Building Regulations, procurement routes, construction practices, building contracts and legal compliance.
  • A relevant degree or equivalent in Land Management/Surveying, Construction, and Building strategy formulation, development and implementation (or similar).
  • Desirable: A qualification with the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
  • A satisfactory Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) disclosure at standard level.
