Children’s Rights Officer – Children and Families Service

Responsibilities
- Act as a lead advocate for children and young people in care, those experiencing care, and those subject to Child Protection Plans.
- Support the contextual safeguarding team with duty work around children missing from home and care, and undertake Return Home Interviews.
- Provide specific safety planning and input around extra familial harm and exploitation.
- Promote children’s rights throughout Hackney, building constructive relationships with senior managers and contributing to policy and practice development.
Qualifications
- Social work, youth work or equivalent professional qualification, with evidence of continuing professional development.
- Detailed knowledge of childcare legislation and good practice in relation to Children’s Act complaints.
- Proven ability to work in a child‑centred and sensitive manner, engaging children of all ages and abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; highly organised and able to work under pressure.
- Passionate and confident in promoting children’s rights and committed to delivering exceptional practice in a supportive and creative environment.
Requirements
Enhanced DBS check required. Candidates must meet all statutory qualifications and demonstrate a commitment to systemic, trauma‑informed and anti‑racist leadership.
