Fixed Term Contract / Secondment Opportunity for 24 Months. The London Borough of Hackney is seeking a skilled Building Surveyor to join our Corporate Hard FM team to deliver an effective, reliable, customer-focused service to the Council with a focus on effective maintenance and maximising the availability of the Council properties. The priority will be on the Local Authority Housing Fund (LAHF) Temporary Accommodation (TA) sites, which are properties bought back by the Council for use across the TA portfolio.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and manage repair and renewal works to the TA properties across the Borough.
  • Assist in undertaking condition surveys of a wide variety of properties.
  • Assist in maintaining robust programmes for ensuring that all TA properties are compliant with current statutory regulations.
  • Manage the work of the wider team to ensure that all Council buildings are maintained to agreed standards.
  • Support the Strategic Property Services team in providing building surveying and inspection advice in relation to the assessment of contractual obligations and preparation of schedules of condition and dilapidations.
  • Provide expert and technical advice on the design, condition, capacity, suitability and statutory compliance monitoring of building installations and advise Council stakeholders.
  • Provide expert technical reports, appraisals, measurements, costings and estimates for various surveys, including maintenance repairs, voids, disrepair and minor projects.

Qualifications

  • Sound and detailed knowledge of Building Regulations, procurement routes, construction practices, building contracts and legal compliance.
  • Relevant degree or equivalent in Land Management/Surveying, Construction and Building strategy formulation, development and implementation (or similar).
  • Desirable, but not imperative, qualification with The Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
  • Satisfactory Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) disclosure at standard level.
