Hackney Council – Apprenticeship opportunity for a Civil Engineering Technician role.

Responsibilities

The Apprentice Engineering Technician will train as an Engineering Technician through a structured 3‑year programme covering a broad range of Civil Engineering activities. Working across four specific areas – Traffic Management, Road Safety, Cycling and Public Realm Improvements – the apprentice will assist in planning, programming, designing and implementing projects from the team’s work programme, ensuring alignment with council policies and objectives.

Qualifications & Eligibility

Applicants must already hold at least a Level 2 qualification or GCSE A*–C / 4–9 in Maths and English. Those with Level 3 or A Levels may enter at Level 4. Applicants with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), a statement of special educational needs (SEN) or a learning difficulty assessment (LDA) will be assessed individually. Applicants who already hold an equivalent Civil Engineering qualification are not eligible.

  • Current resident of the London Borough of Hackney
  • Current student at a Hackney education institution (school, college, university, PRU/alternative provision, Adult Learning provision)
  • Former student at a Hackney secondary education institution who completed at least one GCSE or equivalent Level 2 qualification there within the last 8 years
  • Current or former recipient of Hackney leaving care services

Applicants must hold a British passport or have permission to live in the UK and have resided in the UK for at least the last three years. For EEA residents, settled or confirmed settled status is required. Applicants must provide evidence of meeting all eligibility criteria.

Training Outcomes

On completion of the apprenticeship the candidate will achieve or be close to achieving the Technical Membership of the Institute of Civil Engineers.
