We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Clerk of Works to join our team and contribute to the success of the London Borough of Ealing’s construction and public sector projects. This pivotal role involves ensuring that construction works meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and compliance with specifications and regulations. As Clerk of Works, you will act as Ealing Council’s representative on site, overseeing building projects from inception to completion to guarantee that they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and report on building construction works in progress and upon completion to ensure compliance with design specifications, Building Regulations, Planning, and other statutory regulations, in collaboration with delivery teams.
- Provide consultation and direction to contractors and external consultants to ensure project requirements are met.
- Maintain accurate records and prioritise the rectification of building defects identified during refurbishment construction projects.
- Actively participate as a team player within the Asset Management team, collaborating and supporting colleagues across the team and the wider council.
- Ensure construction works meet all current statutory legislation, including compliance with Health & Safety policies.
Qualifications and Experience
- Demonstrable experience and detailed knowledge of construction contract law and associated regulations, including Planning, Building Control (Building Regs), and CDM Regulations.
- Strong track record in Clerk of Works experience with demonstrable competence in Contractor/Designer liaison within construction in accordance with the JCT and NEC forms of contract.
- Hold a qualification in a building trade, with excellent knowledge and understanding of construction methods, processes, and types.
- Health & Safety Qualifications such as NEBOSH or IOSH.
- Experienced and analytical in identifying building defects and their rectification.
- Competent in reading and understanding technical construction drawings and specifications.
- Knowledge and application of health and safety, equality, diversity and inclusion policies.
- IT literate with excellent proficiency in MS Excel and MS Word. Flexible and able to adopt the use of new software as and when required.
- Preferably a member of the Institute of Clerk of Works and Construction Inspectorate or an equivalent professional body.
