About Camden

Camden is changing on the inside to make life better for everyone. Because we're not just home to the UK's fast-growing economy. We're home to the most important conversations happening today. And we're making radical social change a reality so that nobody gets left behind.

What You’ll Be Doing / How You’ll Be Involved

As a Senior Systems and Controls Officer, you will lead a dedicated team and safeguard the integrity of the Council's financial systems for both income and payments. You will support the Systems Controls and Income Team Manager by overseeing system accounts, carrying out complex General Ledger reconciliations, and leading the daily loading and reconciliation of bank statements. You will guide your team to identify and resolve the root causes of system errors, while serving as the lead contact for system changes, upgrades, and implementations—including organising and leading User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and project planning. This role can be dynamic and challenging as you balance detailed technical analysis with reporting unreconciled items directly to senior leadership and deputising for the team manager. However, you will be playing a crucial role in providing assurance to senior finance leaders and streamlining processes to deliver the best possible outcomes for Camden. This role is office based. A minimum 3 days a week in the office and more when required.

All About You

We are looking for someone with a proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team of direct reports. You are highly proficient in working with complex financial systems and interfaces, bringing advanced skills in reconciling, evaluating, and reviewing financial information. You possess excellent communication and problem-solving skills, allowing you to engage confidently with a wide range of stakeholders, from internal budget managers to the Oracle Cloud Support Team. You will thrive in a fast-paced, shifting environment, showing the capability to self-manage your work, make difficult decisions, and proactively identify opportunities to implement system and control improvements.

The application process: Complete a short application via our job portal – please ensure you also answer the below questions and include in your supporting statement at the top. If you do not answer these questions your application will not be considered. We want to give everyone the same chance to showcase their relevant skills and experience so please clearly answer these two questions, in order:

  • Can you provide an example of a time when you successfully led a team through a complex financial reconciliation or system error resolution, and how you identified the root cause of the issue?
  • Describe your experience working with financial system developments, upgrades, or leading User Acceptance Testing (UAT). How did you manage stakeholder communication during the process?

What We Offer

At Camden, you’ll receive a host of benefits. From flexible working to 27 days annual leave (+ bank holidays!). We also know that a work life balance is extremely important so we also offer family leave, loan schemes and access to our incredible staff networks. We also have an incredible pensions scheme. Visit 'www.camdenjobs.co.uk/staff-benefits' for more details of our excellent benefits scheme.

Inclusion and Belonging

At Camden, we want every colleague to feel they belong and can thrive. We welcome applications from all parts of our community, and particularly encourage people from Black, Asian and Other Ethnic Heritage communities, LGBTQ+ people, disabled and neurodiverse people, survivors of domestic abuse, and those from lower socio-economic backgrounds or with care experience. We know that different voices and perspectives make us stronger, and we are committed to providing the support, adjustments and flexibility people need to succeed.

Anonymised Application – in keeping with Camden’s commitment to inclusion the recruitment to this role is anonymised and supports the objective of reducing the impact of unconscious bias.

Asking for Adjustments

At Camden, we are committed to making our recruitment process barrier-free and accessible for everyone. If you need us to do something differently during the application, interview or assessment process, just let us know and we will support you. This could include providing information in an alternative format, extra time in assessments, or adjustments for disabled, neurodiverse or long-term health conditions. Please contact us on 020 7974 6655, at resourcing@camden.gov.uk or by post to 5 Pancras Square, London, N1C 4AG. We’ll work with you to make sure the process works for you.
