As part of the SEND & Inclusion Service you will deliver high outcomes for children and young people with SEND. You will foster a supportive, relational approach with families, schools, and education providers. You will work collaboratively with children, young people, families and partners to ensure they’re active participants in the development and delivery of SEND services.
About the Role
We are looking for a SEN Support Officer to join our SEN Tribunal, Mediation and Compliance Team within the SEND & Inclusion Service. This is a key operational role supporting the effective delivery of SEND processes and providing a high-quality service to families, schools and professionals.
You will act as the first point of contact for enquiries and provide essential administrative and coordination support to the team. Working closely with Officers across the service, you will help ensure statutory responsibilities are met, information is accurately recorded and communication with families is timely and supportive.
The role involves frequent contact with parents and professionals around sensitive and complex matters, so confidence, empathy and professionalism are essential.
Key responsibilities include:
- Acting as the first point of contact for telephone and written enquiries, resolving issues where possible and signposting appropriately.
- Providing day-to-day administrative support, including diary management, booking meetings, logging invoices and managing shared inboxes.
- Processing and logging requests, ensuring accurate recording and onward allocation.
- Monitoring case progress with SEN Tribunal and Mediation Officers to support compliance with statutory timescales.
- Communicating regularly and sensitively with families, schools and professionals.
- Supporting the Education, Health and Care (EHC) annual review process.
- Arranging meetings, preparing papers and taking accurate minutes.
- Preparing and checking sensitive documentation in line with information governance requirements.
- Maintaining electronic databases and pupil records to a high standard.
- Liaising with partners across the local area to support effective joint working.

To be considered for this fantastic opportunity, it is essential that the successful candidates are educated to degree level or can demonstrate substantial experience in a similar role. You will be organised, reliable and motivated by improving outcomes for children and young people with SEND and their families. You will be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, managing competing priorities while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
You will bring experience of working with the public and professionals and be confident handling sensitive or challenging conversations calmly and respectfully.
You can demonstrate:
- Experience of dealing with the public and professionals, including challenging situations.
- Experience of taking clear, accurate notes and maintaining high-quality records.
- Aware of SEND-related legislation, processes and procedures.
- Confidence using IT systems, databases and Microsoft Office.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build positive relationships.
- Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, Camden’s SEND policy, Local Offer and educational provision.
- An understanding of educational settings and commitment to developing knowledge across the 0–25 age range.
- Experience of working collaboratively with children, young people and families.
- Experience of working with vulnerable children and young people, particularly those with SEND.
