About Camden

Camden is changing on the inside to make life better for everyone. Our residents and communities are at the heart of everything we do. We’re home to the most important conversations happening today and we’re making radical social change a reality, so that nobody gets left behind. Here’s where you can help decide a better future for us all.

What You’ll Be Doing

This is a dynamic and rewarding role within the temporary accommodation (TA) service. You will be responsible for providing an enhanced, dedicated and proactive service for households approaching as homeless and those living in TA. The role is an integral part of transforming how we work with our residents and is key in ensuring households are offered suitable, affordable and sustainable homes in the private rented sector to prevent the need for temporary accommodation placements or reduce the length of time our residents spend in TA.

The role of the PRS Placements Adviser will directly support residents to explore and secure PRS opportunities and to maximise the supply of suitable private rented homes made available to people in need of a placement, in accordance with the council’s homelessness accommodation strategy and placement policy.

You will be responsible for negotiating rent and cash incentive levels with landlords & agents in accordance with Camden’s rates; you will undertake property inspections and drafting of works schedules, tenancy and housing benefits sign‑ups, accompanied resident viewings, in accordance with the council’s homelessness accommodation strategy and placement policy.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and will require an Enhanced DBS.

All About You

You will have a strong commitment to providing a relational service, with the best outcomes for residents at the heart of your work. You’ll bring experience in housing or property management, as well as a deep understanding of the Housing Act 1996, welfare benefits, and tenancy sustainment. Proactive and solution-focused, you will act swiftly to address issues and ensure that services are accessible, transparent, and responsive to the diverse needs of residents. Above all, you will have a caring approach, valuing collaboration and inclusivity, and working with the team to ensure that no one is left behind.

You will have excellent negotiation, customer care and IT skills and an adaptable and resilient personality that thrives under pressure and is willing to go the extra mile to achieve outstanding results. The successful candidates will be responsible for meeting challenging targets for homelessness prevention through the provision of suitable and affordable PRS accommodation.

You will help to prevent homelessness at an early stage to help people avoid needing temporary accommodation and to leave it as quickly as possible.

You will ensure (through casework with applicants and landlords/agents and wider joint working) that tenancies set up via Camden’s PRS schemes are sustainable.

The successful candidate will ideally have experience of procuring, managing or letting private rented sector housing or be looking to change direction and demonstrate a commitment to a career in local government within the homelessness sector evidenced by skills gained in related studies, employment or voluntary work.

Working knowledge of related legislation such as Protection from Eviction Act, environmental health legislation and welfare benefit legislation is beneficial. A working knowledge of Housing Act 1996 Part VII and the Private Rented Sector (PRS) market is desirable.

At Camden, you’ll receive a host of benefits including:
