About the Role
As a Business Rates Officer, you will manage a large working group of Business Rates accounts and associated Business Improvement District (BID) Levy accounts. You will ensure the Council delivers an effective billing, collection, and recovery process, focusing on customer service to maximise revenue whilst meeting legal and statutory requirements.
Responsibilities
- Provide a professional and proactive service by responding to correspondence and telephone calls.
- Identify and develop recovery action against businesses throughout the recovery process.
- Attend and represent the Council at Magistrates Court, High Court, and virtual hearings.
- Handle a range of queries related to billing, collection, and recovery, supporting the Council in maximising resources.
- Identify improvements to processes and systems, working effectively as part of a team.
Qualifications
- IRRV qualified or equivalent experience in a Business Rates customer‑focused environment.
- Excellent analytical, literacy, and written communication skills.
- Proficient knowledge of IT applications and software.
- Understanding of data protection/sharing, audit, and financial standards.
- Ability to work flexibly, balance competing priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Tactful stakeholder management and strong problem‑solving skills.
