Your Role
- Lead on a complex and high-value caseload of commercial contracts, procurement and regeneration matters.
- Provide strategic and expert legal advice to senior officers and elected members.
- Draft and negotiate bespoke and complex agreements, including major projects and outsourcing arrangements.
- Advise on procurement law, governance, subsidy control, contract disputes, data protection and FOI.
- Supervise, support and mentor junior lawyers, contributing to the development of the team.
- Play a key role in cross-council projects and corporate initiatives, including transformation and innovation programmes.
- Support modernisation, including digital transformation and the effective use of technology.
- Represent Legal Services at senior meetings, boards and member forums.
- Act as a trusted adviser on major projects and key strategic decisions.
About You
We are looking for a qualified Solicitor, Barrister or FCILEx with a current practising certificate, who can demonstrate:
- Significant experience advising on contracts, procurement and commercial matters (ideally within local government or the public sector).
- Strong technical expertise combined with the ability to provide clear, pragmatic and solution-focused advice.
- Proven ability to lead complex matters independently and manage competing priorities.
- Experience of supporting or supervising colleagues and contributing to team development.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to advise at a senior level.
- A collaborative, proactive approach and commitment to continuous improvement.
- Experience advising senior stakeholders and contributing to strategic decision-making.
