Are you a Class 2F Registered Building Inspector? We are looking to appoint a Senior Building Control Surveyor to join our Building Control team at Bromley. Bromley also plays an important role in the regional economy, particularly the strategic industrial land in the Cray Valley; and Bromley Town Centre, the borough’s most significant retail and leisure location.

About the Role

Bromley’s Building Control Service has embarked upon a program of improvements that will increase customer and public confidence in what we do and ensure customers receive the optimum level of service. Examples of these improvements include:

  • Migration of our IT system to a more efficient and customer friendly system with further improvements to streamline the application process
  • Development of trainee Class 1 Registered Building Inspectors

The focus of the work of the Senior Building Control Surveyor is dealing with a day-to-day management of an area for plan checking and carrying out site inspections. This will involve working with other Council services to deliver improvements to our existing buildings such as leisure centres, libraries and housing projects. The ideal candidate will be Class 2F registered and working towards Class 3. You will have experience in building control project management for residential and commercial developments as well as experienced in dealing with dangerous structures. Good problem‑solving skills and being able to use excellent communication skills to explain technical terms and regulations clearly to members of the public and other professionals are essential skills required for this role. You will provide supervision to the Class 1 RBI’s at plan checking and site inspection stages.

The service operates a flexible approach to remote working; however you will be required to carry out site inspections within the borough on a daily basis and take a turn on out of hours standby for attending and dealing with dangerous structures within the Borough. The London Borough of Bromley is geographically the largest London borough and with this comes a wide range of developments for our Building Control Team. This will provide you with a varied workload in terms of challenge and expectation from customers however the role is incredibly rewarding. The successful candidate will be joining a values-based organisation and be supported with their Continuing Professional Development. Your registration, renewal and surveillance costs for the Building Safety Regulator will be fully supported.
