Overview
Senior Accountant in Bromley Council’s housing financial management team, supporting budgeting, year-end accounts, and subsidy processes. You will help shape housing strategies for temporary accommodation and developments, collaborating with stakeholders to improve financial governance. Responsibilities
- Lead on budget monitoring and annual budget setting for housing, including demand-led areas such as temporary accommodation
- Close the service’s accounts at year-end and produce thorough workings for RO, RA and other returns to London Councils and grant funding organisations
- Know-how of housing benefits subsidy and subsidy claims to maximise subsidies and minimise errors
- Ensure housing developments maximise the Council’s ability to meet client-led demand
- Manage and lead the development of staff supporting the financial management offer to housing services
- Respond to Freedom of Information requests and external audit queries in a timely and substantive manner
Key requirements
- CCAB qualified accountant (consideration given to part qualified) with significant financial management experience at a senior level
- Strong ability to deep dive into data and present insights through high-quality visualisations (Microsoft Excel and Power BI) and narrative
- Knowledge of housing development schemes and ability to review financial and operational aspects
- Familiarity with Housing Revenue Account (HRA) rents, service charges, and operations is beneficial
- Professional curiosity to triangulate data from disparate sources and draw conclusions
- High drive and initiative to interpret housing law and legislation for services
- Enthusiasm for Power BI and turning budget outputs into dashboards
