Pickhurst Academy is seeking an experienced and passionate SENCo to lead, develop and strategically shape our provision for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities. This is an exciting opportunity to join a vibrant four-form entry junior academy in West Wickham, where inclusion is central to our ethos and practice.
Working closely with the Executive Head and wider leadership team, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in driving high-quality SEND provision across the school—ensuring that every child receives the tailored support they need to thrive both academically and personally. This full-time, non-class-based position offers the chance to influence whole-school practice, strengthen inclusive systems, and make a meaningful impact within a nurturing and ambitious school community.
This is a full-time role, providing strategic leadership of SEND across the academy. The successful candidate will work closely with the Executive Head and leadership team to ensure that all pupils with special educational needs and disabilities receive high-quality support and achieve their full potential. Alongside the strategic leadership of SEND, the role will include targeted intervention teaching and some cover teaching, supporting pupils through small-group work and ensuring inclusive, high-quality teaching across the school.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and manage SEND provision across the academy.
- Ensure compliance with the SEND Code of Practice (2014) and statutory guidance.
- Work closely with the Executive Head and leadership team to develop and implement SEND strategy.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of SEND provision across the school.
- Support teachers in delivering high-quality inclusive classroom practice.
- Coordinate and review targeted interventions to support pupil progress.
- Deliver small-group interventions to support pupils with additional needs.
- Provide occasional cover teaching where required.
- Maintain accurate SEND records and oversee identification and assessment processes.
- National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCo).
- Experience of coordinating SEND provision, ideally in a primary setting.
- Strong knowledge of SEND legislation and inclusive teaching strategies.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Commitment to ensuring the best outcomes for pupils with additional needs.
