Early Years Assistant

This is a fast pace, fun and rewarding role to work across 6 Children and Families Centres supporting the development of children in Bromley.

Schedule & Location

Days of the week: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday (plus two full day Wednesdays per annum, one in April and one in October).

Daily hours: 9:30 am – 1:30 pm.

Term time: Yes + 1 week (39 weeks).

Locations: Bromley’s six Children and Family Centres and the Civic Centre (Biggin Hill, Penge, Mottingham, Bromley North, Orpington and St Paul’s Cray).

Travel across the borough may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Support Early Years Practitioners to run crèche sessions for children aged 0‑5.
  • Lead and facilitate Learn and Play sessions for children and their parent/carers.
  • Support delivery of Bookstart.
  • Model high‑quality play and help parents continue learning at home.
  • Interpret and deliver pre‑planned Creche and Learn and Play sessions.
  • Engage positively with children, parents and staff, and support families through differentiation of delivery.
  • Implement legislation and relevant policies from London Borough Bromley and external agencies such as Department of Education and Ofsted.
  • Self‑reflect and participate in the development of the setting, wider service and personal performance and training needs.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • NVQ Level 2 or higher in Early Years, or equivalent.
  • Extensive knowledge of child development and the EYFS Framework.
  • Compassionate and understanding personality, with a strong employment record of engaging positively with children, parents and staff.
  • Ability to support children with additional needs through differentiation of delivery.
  • Ability to lead ‘Learn and Play’ sessions and inspire parents to enhance their child’s development.
  • Evidence of outstanding practice and promotion of high standards of learning.
  • Ability to interpret and deliver pre‑planned Creche and Learn and Play sessions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Evidence of strong, trusting bonds with families and support staff.
  • Satisfactory enhanced DBS check is required.
  • Employment Details

Permanent; minimum salary point for the grade of the role. The post holder will be required on site daily.
