Salary scale: BR8 (£33,835)

Hours: Full time, 36 hours per week

Flexible working: Limited opportunity to work from home; required to meet with families and professionals in the community. Office based work minimum two days a week, up to five days during 6‑month induction.

Responsibilities

  • Provide impartial, confidential, and accurate information, advice and support about education, health and social care to children, young people and parents on matters relating to special educational needs and disabilities.
  • Support families to understand their rights, roles, and responsibilities, empower them to give their views, and encourage them to be at the centre of making informed decisions related to education, health and social care.
  • Offer strong negotiation skills and manage situations of conflict to ensure the best outcomes for the children and young people concerned.
  • Maintain an extensive caseload including complex casework such as SEND tribunals, attend multi‑agency meetings, manage own administrative duties, staff the helpline, and monitor the IASS email inbox.
  • Work flexibly, respond to parents in crisis, meet non‑negotiable external deadlines, and ensure the service meets statutory requirements.

Qualifications

  • Excellent knowledge of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) legislation and related support.
  • Previous experience of supporting and working directly with parents and/or young people.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • Ability to negotiate, manage conflict and plan effectively under pressure.
