About Us

The Tutorial Foundation is a small, independent special school in Bromley, supporting approximately 30 pupils aged 13–17 with a range of special educational needs, including autism, ADHD and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.

We are a close-knit school with class sizes of fewer than six pupils, allowing staff to provide individualised support and build positive relationships with every young person.

We pride ourselves on providing a calm, supportive and nurturing environment where pupils can develop their confidence, independence and academic skills.

About the Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic, organised and adaptable individual to join our team as a Food Technology Teacher & School Cook, working four days per week.

This is a varied and rewarding role combining practical Food Technology teaching in very small classes with the preparation and cooking of daily school lunches for our small school community.

The role would suit either a qualified Food Technology teacher with a passion for cooking or an experienced cook or catering professional who is confident sharing their skills with young people.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Planning and delivering engaging, practical Food Technology lessons tailored to pupils' individual needs and abilities.
  • Teaching essential cooking skills, food hygiene, nutrition and healthy eating.
  • Preparing and cooking fresh, nutritious school lunches for our small school community.
  • Planning varied and balanced school menus, accommodating dietary requirements and allergies.
  • Managing food orders, stock levels and kitchen supplies.
  • Maintaining high standards of food hygiene, cleanliness and kitchen safety.
  • Creating a positive and supportive learning environment, encouraging pupils to develop confidence and independence.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues to support the wider school community.

About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience in Food Technology teaching, professional cooking or catering.
  • Is confident preparing and cooking meals for groups.
  • Has a good understanding of food hygiene, allergens and kitchen safety.
  • Enjoys working with young people and can make practical cooking lessons engaging and accessible.
  • Is organised, reliable and able to balance teaching and catering responsibilities.
  • Is patient, adaptable and enthusiastic about working with pupils with additional needs.
  • Can work independently while contributing positively to a small, supportive school team.

A formal teaching qualification is not essential. We welcome applications from experienced cooks and catering professionals with the enthusiasm and ability to teach practical cooking skills.

Previous experience working with pupils with SEN would be beneficial, although a willingness to learn and adapt is equally important.

What We Offer

  • A four-day working week.
  • Very small class sizes, with fewer than six pupils per class.
  • A welcoming, close-knit school community of approximately 30 pupils.
  • A calm and supportive working environment.
  • The opportunity to develop an engaging, practical Food Technology curriculum.
  • A friendly and supportive team.
  • The chance to make a genuine difference to young people's lives.
