Environmental Health, Public Health Nuisance Officer

Grade: BR11 to BR13 £41,476 to £50,867
Public Protection, Environmental Services, Civic Centre Bromley

Make a visible difference across London's largest borough

We are looking for two Environmental Health Officers to join our Public Health and Nuisance team.

This is an excellent opportunity to undertake varied, meaningful work that protects public health, improves local environmental conditions and supports residents and businesses across the borough.

Bromley in the South East of London has a good balance between the challenges of an inner London authority and a district council, with a diverse mix of neighbourhoods and communities. We are London's largest borough geographically and cover densely urban areas in the north through to green belt countryside in the south.

This variety makes Bromley an interesting and rewarding place to practise Environmental Health. You will manage a broad range of public health and statutory nuisance investigations, applying professional judgement to complex and sometimes sensitive situations.

The role

As an Environmental Health Officer, you will investigate public health and statutory nuisance complaints and take proportionate remedial or enforcement action where necessary. You will work directly with residents, businesses, landlords, housing providers and other organisations, providing clear advice while ensuring compliance with relevant legislation.

About you

You will be confident working independently, able to organise and prioritise a varied caseload, and comfortable making evidence-based decisions. You will also enjoy working as part of a supportive team and building constructive relationships with residents, businesses and professional partners.

You should ideally have a Degree or Diploma in Environmental Health or a related discipline, although those with transferable skills from other areas will be considered.

Previous local authority experience would be an advantage, but it is not essential. A full driving licence and willingness to undertake some work outside normal office hours are required.

You will join a service where your work can have a direct and visible impact on people's homes, health and quality of life. The breadth of the borough provides experience of environmental health work across urban, suburban and rural settings, with opportunities to investigate a varied range of public health and nuisance matters.

We welcome applications from experienced Environmental Health Officers as well as candidates from related regulatory, housing, public health, enforcement or investigative backgrounds who can demonstrate suitable transferable skills.
