Bexley Business & Employment (BBE) is the Councils employment service and has provided employment support to unemployed Bexley residents for more than 25 years. We are delivering a variety of employment support programmes in Bexley in partnership with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to help our residents overcome the barriers to employment that many people face.
We offer a wide menu of employment support from which participants can pick including individually tailored advice and guidance around job search, workshops to gain employability skills, computerised job search facilities and access to local vacancies through our employer engagement team.
About the Role
As a Senior Employment Advisor on externally funded programmes working within the Bexley Business & Employment (BBE) team, you will manage a small team of employment advisors working with adult job seekers who are preparing to move into employment, helping them to identify and address the barriers that make this difficult by providing exemplary case management, including support, advice, advocacy and signposting to relevant services.
You will be responsible for ensuring that the team meet the required targets to move people into employment, help them to remain there and generate sufficient income to fund delivery and in the absence of your Team Leader, you will also be asked to support the Service Manager with attending external performance management meetings.
In addition, you will have your own small caseload of clients and will provide information, advice and guidance and develop and maintain an action plan with each job seeker. You will agree a range of activities with the job seeker to enable and inspire them to achieve sustained employment alongside non-employment progression measures, including improving wellbeing, self-confidence and level of independence.
Where a contract requires, you will lead your team to deliver support by using both models of Supported Employment; Individual Placement and Support (IPS) and Supported Employment Quality Framework (SEQF).
You will work in partnership with a wide variety of local agencies including small and large employers and also with colleagues within the BBE team to provide the best support to individuals, this includes the BBE employer engagement team who account manage local vacancies with employers.
This role will support some existing contracts but also the Governments new 5 year Connect to Work programme. You will be supporting the Team Leader to deliver employability activities under the Individual Placement and Support (IPS) and Supported Employment Quality Framework (SEQF) models to both clients and employers adhering to the Fidelity Scales as set within the Fidelity Assurance System working to the ‘place and train’ model to ensure clients job start needs are met.
Candidate Profile
- Experience of managing own caseload and meeting targets to help people overcome their barriers to employment and moving them into sustainable work in a Welfare to Work or recruitment environment
- Experience of using ICT packages – good knowledge of Microsoft Office as well as client management systems
- Experience of supervising staff including monitoring workloads and performance against targets
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve a common aim
- Knowledge of those issues that make accessing employment difficult and create barriers
- Experience of analysing data, performance and presenting reports in a suitable format
- Experience of attending external meetings to represent the organisation
- Understanding of supporting legislation/best practice
