We need a strong team player to assist the Street Works Team in operating the London Permit Scheme. You will be working as a member of the Street Works Team to assess and coordinate permits on the highway within the Borough. This role involves working closely with Street Works Inspectors and Highway Area Teams to ensure the best possible service to all highway users.
The work is varied and interesting, involving taking pride and ownership of one third of the Borough for the coordination and administration of the London Permit Scheme, including:
- Assessment of permit applications
- Electronic administration of comments, inspections, defects and associated charges
- Identifying and seeking resolution of inaccuracies in data
You will work closely with a Street Works Inspector to ensure all relevant legislation is met. You will also play an active role in dealing with emergencies that may affect the highway and the residents of Bexley.
An understanding of the New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA), the London Permit Scheme (LoPS) and the Traffic Management Act is a definite advantage. Experience in coordination or an operational technical support environment is desirable, though training will be provided.
Excellent customer service and communication skills are essential as you will liaise daily with colleagues, other departments, utility companies and members of the public. The candidate should have versatile IT skills and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, as well as the ability to adapt to bespoke IT systems and databases. You will be required to show initiative and work independently as well as part of a team.
