Bexley is a high performing Council with well-regarded Children’s Services. We are striving to improve educational and wellbeing outcomes for children and young people with special educational needs and disability across the Borough. We have a well-established and innovative Early Intervention Team that includes SEN Strategic Support Partners, Educational Psychologists, SEMH Partners and Early Intervention Team Social Workers. There are strong links with the School Improvement and Partnership and Statutory Assessment teams, as well as with Children’s Social Care teams. The Early Intervention Team work very closely with schools at the SEN Support stage (SEND Code of Practice) but also undertake relevant work outside of school settings.

Full-time role, 5 days a week, for an Assistant Psychologist.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with groups of pupils with communication or social-emotional and mental health difficulties in schools, to build confidence, resilience and social skills as part of an intervention programme.
  • Use specialist knowledge of language, social and emotional development to raise awareness of the needs of pupils with SLCN or SEMH and associated difficulties.
  • Work alongside Educational Psychologists and support them to gather information about children and young people referred to the Educational Psychology Team.
  • Observe children who have a wide range of different special educational needs, interview their parents and carers, or school staff to gather a developmental history and share this information with an Educational Psychologist.
  • Maintain and monitor records of service delivery to evaluate outcomes and report to clinical and operational supervisors.
  • Deliver training to parents and schools alongside experienced staff.

Qualifications and Experience:

We are looking for a highly motivated individual able to use their initiative to work independently; to manage effectively a varied and changing caseload and make decisions about effective service delivery. The candidate must have a degree in Psychology and an awareness of the importance of language, social and emotional development and the impact of difficulties in these developmental areas on a child’s educational progress.
