The Student Experience Assistant supports the delivery and enhancement of the student experience at LAAT, working under the guidance of the Student Experience Lead. The role contributes to student engagement initiatives, student voice structures, committee coordination, feedback processes, and regulatory preparation (including OFS readiness), ensuring a positive and supportive academic environment aligned with partnership expectations.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Student Voice & Committee Support: Support the coordination and administration of the Student Voice Committee, Student Interest Panel, and Student Interest Committee. Assist in organising monthly operational meetings, quarterly strategic review meetings, prepare agendas, take minutes, and track action points. Support the recruitment and engagement of Class Representatives (CRs). Maintain effective communication between students, academic staff, and senior management. Assist in merging weekly student voice updates into institutional reporting meetings.
- Student Engagement & Enhancement Activities: Support the planning and delivery of induction, orientation, and transition activities. Assist in organising student‑led clubs, societies, and engagement initiatives. Encourage student participation in enrichment activities and community‑building events. Work collaboratively with academic staff to promote an inclusive and engaging learning environment.
- Student Support & Guidance: Provide first‑line support to students raising queries or concerns, referring complex matters to the Student Experience Lead where appropriate. Liaise with academic staff and support services to resolve student issues. Support early identification of students requiring additional academic or pastoral assistance. Maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive student matters.
- Feedback & Continuous Improvement: Assist in collecting and collating student feedback from Student Voice Committees, module evaluations, and informal channels. Identify emerging themes and raise key issues to the Student Experience Lead. Support action planning and communication of outcomes back to students ("You Said – We Did" approach).
- Partnership & Compliance Support: Assist in ensuring student experience processes align with partnership standards set by Plymouth Marjon University. Support documentation and reporting required for quality assurance and Office for Students (OFS) preparation. Contribute to data collection relating to attendance, engagement, and student satisfaction metrics.
- Communication & Information Management: Update student communications through appropriate platforms (e.g., VLE, email notices, internal systems). Support clear dissemination of academic regulations, institutional policies, and event information. Maintain accurate records of meetings, activities, and student engagement initiatives.
Requirements
Person Specification
Essential: Experience in a student‑facing or administrative role within education. Strong organisational and time‑management skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively within a team and under guidance. Experience in event or meeting coordination. Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information professionally.
Desirable: Experience within Higher Education. Understanding of student voice structures and committee processes. Awareness of UK Higher Education regulatory frameworks (e.g., OfS). Experience working within a partnership provision environment.
