The London Academy for Applied Technology (LAAT) is a dynamic and rapidly growing higher education institution delivering undergraduate programmes in HE Business. LAAT is in the process of registering with the Office for Students (OfS) and is committed to widening participation, student outcomes, and delivering an outstanding student experience underpinned by high-quality teaching and robust governance.
We are seeking a dedicated and organised Student Support Assistant to provide front‑line support to students and staff at our Tower Hill and Brentford campus. The role involves assisting with Turnitin account and system setup, ID card creation, attendance tracking, and ensuring smooth coordination between students and teachers. You will also play a key role in maintaining records, managing notices, and reporting important activities to the Line Manager. This role operates within LAAT’s OfS registration framework and supports the institution’s preparation for compliance with OfS regulatory conditions, including those relating to student outcomes, quality of experience, and access and participation.
Key Responsibilities
- Systems & Platform Support: Support students in setting up and navigating institutional systems including SEATs, Moodle, Turnitin, and Microsoft Teams. Use SEATs to monitor student attendance and engagement, input data accurately, and flag concerns to the Line Manager where needed. Support students with Moodle access, course navigation, and submission of assessments via Turnitin, troubleshooting issues and escalating where required. Assist students with initial login issues and institutional account setup, reporting unresolved IT issues promptly to the IT Manager.
- ID Cards & Records: Operate the ID card printer to create and distribute student ID cards. Ensure ID card records are updated and accurate.
- Attendance Management: Maintain attendance registers as provided by teachers. Keep accurate attendance sheets and ensure timely updates. Support in maintaining student data for reporting purposes.
- Student Liaison & Support: Escort students from the reception area to classrooms when required. Act as a liaison between teachers and students for smooth class management. Handle basic student queries related to finance, attendance, or academic concerns. Escalate relevant queries to the student support team for resolution. Monitor attendance and engagement through SEATs, identifying concerns and escalating issues to the Line Manager where needed. Use Moodle, Turnitin, and SEATs to manage student records, input data, and support learning and assessment processes. Signpost students to relevant academic, welfare, and support services, ensuring a smooth and responsive student experience. Maintain accurate records and work closely with internal teams to support effective communication and case follow‑up. Support students in resolving academic and system‑related queries, contributing to improved engagement and timely assessment submissions.
- Communication & Administration: Record important daily activities and share updates with the Line Manager. Update noticeboards with subject details, class schedules, and contact information. Prepare and display key announcements for students.
- General Support: Support in any extra activities or tasks as assigned by management. Work additional hours if required, subject to discussion and agreement.
