Role Overview:
They are in the market for a highly organised and commercially minded Buyer to join their growing construction team.
This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with 2–5 years of procurement experience in the construction sector to take ownership of buying responsibilities across a range of design and build projects.

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting project delivery by ensuring materials, plant, and subcontract services are sourced competitively and delivered on time and within budget.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Sourcing & Procurement: Procure a wide range of construction materials, plant, and subcontractor services in line with project requirements and programme timelines.
  • Negotiation: Lead negotiations with suppliers and subcontractors to secure competitive prices, optimal delivery terms, and favourable contractual conditions.
  • Supplier Management: Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, monitoring their performance and addressing delivery, quality, or service issues as they arise.
  • Cost Management: Work closely with estimators and the commercial team to ensure cost control and value for money across all procurement activities.
  • Logistics & Scheduling: Coordinate with the site team to ensure timely and accurate delivery of goods and services, aligned with the construction programme.
  • Tendering: Manage the tendering process for subcontract packages, including reviewing bids, conducting comparisons, and issuing purchase orders or subcontracts.
  • Compliance: Ensure all procurement activities adhere to company policies, health and safety legislation, and environmental standards.
  • Market Research: Stay up to date with market trends, innovations, material availability, and supplier capabilities to support strategic procurement decisions.
  • Pre-Construction Involvement: Attend design and procurement meetings to advise on material specifications, supply chain risks, and lead times.
  • Problem Solving: Identify and resolve issues such as delays, substitutions, or price fluctuations that may impact the project timeline or budget.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Construction Knowledge: Solid understanding of construction materials, plant, subcontractor procurement, and supply chain management.
  • Commercial Awareness: Ability to assess cost impact, manage budgets, and identify value engineering opportunities.
  • Negotiation Skills: Proven ability to negotiate commercially beneficial deals and build long-term supplier relationships.
  • Communication: Strong interpersonal and written communication skills, with confidence to liaise with internal teams, suppliers, and subcontractors.
  • Organisation & Planning: Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritise tasks, manage multiple procurement schedules, and meet deadlines.
  • IT Proficiency: Competence in procurement software and MS Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, etc.).
