A fabulous opportunity for an experienced Race Engineer to join the small yet growing, dedicated and talented team at Lola as we embark on the next phase of the adventure. Working as part of the Trackside Engineering Team and reporting to the Lead Mechanic, the Race Engineer will collaborate closely with the Driver and Support Engineers to optimise performance across events. A key contributor to the overall innovation, development, and implementation process for car and driver performance.

Role Responsibilities

  • Act as Race Engineer with overall responsibility for all technical, operational, and strategic aspects of one car at events.
  • Define and continuously refine car setup using data analysis, simulation outputs, driver feedback, and performance group input.
  • Create, execute, and adapt run plans, including setup changes and modifications during sessions, to maximise performance and learning.
  • Lead real time, mid event decision making, analysing setup, tyre behaviour, energy use, competitor performance, and driver feedback.
  • Manage and coordinate trackside and factory-based engineers, working closely with Performance, Controls, Systems, Tyre, and Strategy groups to optimise car performance and development.
  • Direct and lead the car crew and mechanics during events, fostering clear communication, efficiency, and teamwork.
  • Oversee track, simulator, and rig testing activities, ensuring strong correlation between simulation and on track performance.
  • Lead simulation and simulator correlation efforts pre event, during events, and post event, providing clear recommendations and actions.
  • Plan, organise, and execute simulator and on track test events, supporting both race preparation and long term performance development.
  • Maintain accurate and up to date event data, reports, and technical documentation, including detailed post event analyses.
  • Take shared responsibility for car legality and regulatory compliance, working closely with the Technical Coordinator.
  • Establish, document, and implement best practices to ensure safe, legal, reliable, and high performance car operation.
  • Contribute to fault reporting, rectification processes, and technical operating documentation, supporting continuous improvement.
  • Support long term car development and specification, contributing to performance reviews and project review meetings to ensure alignment across technical areas.

  • Self-motivated to develop, drive and deliver the Race Engineer remit.
  • A proactive evidence-based approach to problem-solving, coupled with a "can do" attitude and a high degree of initiative.

  • Ability to work both independently and as a team player.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of efficiently presenting and explaining complex engineering topics, with a keen interest in motorsports.
  • Confidence with the knowledge to raise issues and develop solutions.
  • Comfortable operating in a fluid, changing environment.
  • Works systematically with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Methodical and measured in approach.
  • Builds rapport with team members.

Qualifications & Experience Required

  • Degree Level or commensurate work experience.
  • Mechanical, Automotive, Aeronautical engineering degree desirable.
  • Project Management experience desirable.
  • An interest in and understanding of engineering/motorsport.
  • This is a key role for an experienced motorsport engineer who thrives on pressure, precision, and performance - ideally with a background in Formula E, WEC, LMDh, IndyCar or Formula 2.

The Successful Candidate Might Be

  • An existing track Test Engineer in a motorsport/automotive company.
  • A Performance and Simulation Engineer who has acquired the appropriate experience, skills & knowledge.
  • An experienced engineer with the relevant skills and knowledge.

Role Location & Hours

The role will be based at the Silverstone, Lola Facility with the requirement to travel when necessary. The successful applicant will need to be adaptable and flexible to working hours including both evenings and weekends; taking into account the requirement to attend events. A normal working week is 40 hrs, 8 hrs a day.
