Most backend roles are the same system with a different logo on it. This one involves connecting labs, healthcare systems, APIs and bioinformatics pipelines into workflows that have to be reliable, compliant, and right first time, because the output goes to real patients and real clinicians.
The company is a health tech start up that has just won a major NHS contract. For a business of their size that is a big moment, and it means years of work to build rather than a single project. You would be joining early enough to shape the platform instead of inheriting it.
You’ll be working on:
- Designing and building scalable backend systems and APIs
- Production grade systems in Node.js and TypeScript
- Robust APIs and distributed systems
- Taking ownership of projects from initial design through to production
- Improving security, testing and overall platform reliability
- Using AI assisted development tools to speed up delivery
- Working closely with engineering, product, design and medical teams
I’d like to speak to engineers with:
- Strong commercial Node.js and TypeScript experience
- Experience building and scaling production backend systems
- Strong API and distributed systems knowledge
- Experience with relational databases
- A product mindset, and the ability to take ownership and thrive in a fast moving environment
AWS, Infrastructure as Code, event driven architecture and NoSQL experience would be highly beneficial. Exposure to healthcare standards like HL7 or FHIR, or regulated software, would be a real bonus.
