Role Overview
The Customs Clearance Clerk will be responsible for ensuring that all import and export consignments comply with customs regulations and are processed efficiently and accurately. You’ll work closely with internal teams, customs authorities, and clients to handle customs documentation and resolve any clearance issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and submit customs entries for imports and exports
- Classify goods using the correct tariff codes (HS Codes)
- Check and process import/export documentation (e.g., invoices, packing lists, Bills of Lading, Certificates of Origin)
- Communicate with clients regarding shipment status, customs queries, or delays
- Coordinate with carriers, transport companies, and warehouse teams for delivery planning
- Keep up to date with changes in customs laws, trade agreements, and regulations
- Maintain accurate records in accordance with customs and company requirements
- Assist in audits and provide reports as required
Requirements
- Previous experience in customs clearance or freight forwarding (1–2 years preferred)
- Knowledge of UK customs procedures, CDS, and current import/export regulations
- Experience using customs software platforms (e.g., Descartes, ASM Sequoia, CargoWise, etc.)
- Strong attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
