This new hybrid Photonic Integrated Design (PIC Design) opportunity based in Central London with good commuting from Cambridge, Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire and surrounding areas, is working on a disruptive technology for sustainability, utilising AI/ML techniques. The role will involve working collaboratively with a current PIC team to design and develop photonic integrated technologies for a sustainable future.

Key responsibilities:

  • Driving the design, simulation and activity of passive and active components within PDK.
  • Leading high performance photonic builds.
  • Composing, analysing and delivering PIC design specifications.

The successful candidate will have a PhD or excellent qualifications in Physics or a related topic with relevant work experience in PIC design, ideally 3-4 years+ post PhD, or extensive photonics research in photonics academia.

Required skills:

  • Strong simulation skills in photonics (FDTD, EME).
  • Knowledge of device physics and semiconductor optical devices (lasers, optical amplifiers, modulators and detectors).
  • Strong layout/mask design for photonic mask layout.

It would also be of interest for the candidate to have knowledge of high speed RF design characterisation/RF simulation, along with the use of ML/AI methodology techniques used in photonic design.
