Based in Cambridge, this global organisation with offices around the world is looking to recruit a Photonics lead along with a more junior Photonics Engineer. The team is focused on accelerating the adoption of innovative photonic technologies into real-world products.

The role involves:

  • Photonic integrated circuits
  • Nano- and micro-fabricated optics
  • Nonlinear systems
  • Emerging fields such as quantum photonics
  • Optical design, including the use of tools like Zemax

The senior role involves being a photonics architect, leading multidisciplinary teams developing next-generation photonic and optoelectronic systems, delivering PICs and photonic systems, and owning architecture from concept to validated hardware. The junior role will report to this lead architect, working on similar projects and technologies.

The successful candidates will have excellent qualifications, including a PhD in Physics, Electronics or Semiconductor related technologies, along with:

  • High commercial competence along with technical knowledge, as speaking with clients will be part of the role
  • Specification, design, fabrication/test and validation of complex PICs or photonic systems
  • Hands-on photonic design/simulation (Lumerical/Ansys/Synopsys or equivalent) and PIC layout (Synopsys/Luceda/Nazca)
  • Engagement with the photonics ecosystem (fabs, packaging, test)
  • Deep knowledge of PIC platforms (SiPh/SiN/InP), integration methods and test strategies
  • Proven ability to lead engineers, make technical trade-offs and collaborate across disciplines

Desired experience includes:

  • Photonic / optical compute technologies
  • High-speed PICs for datacoms
  • Free-space optical communication

On offer is an excellent salary, a 20% bonus (for both roles), including RSUs, a high relocation package if required, hybrid working (2-3 days in the office per week), a free lunch onsite and much more.
