Are you a Psychology graduate looking to gain meaningful experience working with children and young people with special educational needs? We are looking for enthusiastic, empathetic and resilient Psychology Graduate SEN Teaching Assistants to join schools across Godalming. This is a fantastic opportunity for graduates looking to gain hands-on experience before pursuing a career in Educational Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Child Psychology, SEN teaching, Speech and Language Therapy or another child-focused profession.

The Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will provide tailored support to pupils with a range of additional needs, including autism, ADHD, SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health), learning difficulties and communication needs. Your responsibilities may include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support
  • Helping pupils access the curriculum and achieve their learning goals
  • Supporting children's social, emotional and personal development
  • Encouraging confidence, independence and positive behaviour
  • Helping pupils manage emotions and develop effective coping strategies
  • Building positive and trusting relationships with pupils
  • Working alongside teachers, SENCOs and other professionals
  • Supporting an inclusive, engaging and positive classroom environment

Why Psychology Graduates?

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • A 2:1 or above Psychology degree (or equivalent)
  • A genuine passion for working with children and young people
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Patience, empathy and resilience
  • A calm and consistent approach
  • The ability to build strong professional relationships
  • Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable, but not essential
