The Head of Continuing Airworthiness is responsible for ensuring the management of safety and security risks to continuing airworthiness management operations and ensuring maintenance operations are conducted in accordance with conditions and restrictions of the Air Operator Certificate, and in compliance with applicable regulations and standards of Loganair. This role constitutes a nominated postholder position under CAMO.A.305 and is subject to acceptance by the UK Civil Aviation Authority.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implementation of the SMS, as applicable to airworthiness, and encouraging the involvement of CAMO staff.
  • In consultation with the Director of Safety and Compliance, promulgate relative Safety Critical information and awareness using company communications systems including but not limited to Q Pulse.
  • Ensuring that the Safety, Security, Compliance and Quality policy and procedures are understood and applied by CAMO staff and that everybody is actively involved in ensuring a safe and efficient service.
  • Ensuring department compliance with the regulation and Loganair CAME, procedures and processes.
  • Developing and implementing airworthiness standards, policy and procedures to meet Loganair safety and performance targets, ensuring continuous improvement.
  • Ensure all continuing airworthiness management activities are carried out on time and in accordance with Part‑M and Part CAMO requirements ensuring that human factors and human performance limitations are taken into account.
  • Identifying to the Accountable Manager, the manpower and resource required to ensure that all continued airworthiness can be carried out to the Loganair standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Determining what maintenance is required, when it has to be performed and ensuring that all maintenance is carried out on time and to an approved standard.
  • Liaising with the UK CAA on matters affecting continuing airworthiness and its policy.
  • Ensuring that technical records are kept as required by Continuing Airworthiness regulations.
  • Modifications and repairs (changes) are carried out to an approved standard.
  • Airworthiness Directive review and embodiment.
  • Non‑mandatory modification embodiment policy.
  • Rectification of all defects.
  • Line and base maintenance performed to an acceptable standard.
  • Ensuring that continuing airworthiness reviews are carried out annually in conjunction with the authorised airworthiness review staff.
  • Ensuring all Appendix IV maintenance contracts are in place to support the operation and that the contracts are reviewed and managed appropriately.
  • Ensuring that adequate Appendix II Subcontracting of continuing airworthiness management tasks contracts are put in place, where necessary.
  • Departmental continuous improvement activities that ensure the most efficient operations of the airline’s assets.
  • Ensuring that facilities and office accommodation provide an appropriate working environment, meet Loganair standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensuring that management of continuing airworthiness is performed on time and in accordance with the applicable requirements, regulations and approved standards and that aircraft have a valid Certificate of Airworthiness for all flights undertaken.
  • Carrying out management reviews to ensure that the management system required by Continuing Airworthiness regulation is effective in its application (frequency, format, and structure) and that follow up actions required are taken.
  • Reviewing and amending the CAME, and associated procedures and processes (not to exceed 12 months) against the activities of the company, its structure, and the appropriate regulatory requirements to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Development of CAMO staff that ensures succession planning and organisational resilience.
  • Support the Engineering Safety Action Group (eSAG) activities as defined in MSM Section 4.3.13.2.

Skills and Knowledge

The Head of Continuing Airworthiness shall demonstrate adequate knowledge of continuing airworthiness management, including Part‑CAMO regulatory requirements, applicable maintenance standards, airworthiness certification principles, reliability programmes, aircraft maintenance programmes, and the management and oversight of contracted maintenance activities.

Training and Experience

  • A Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering degree; or
  • A UK CAA / EASA Part 66 Aircraft Maintenance Licence (Category B1 or B2) with additional education acceptable to the competent authority; or
  • Where formal qualifications are not held, at least 5 additional years of relevant experience in aircraft maintenance and/or continuing airworthiness management, acceptable to the UK CAA.
  • Previous people management experience.
  • Commercial and financial management knowledge and experience desirable.
