The Technical Sales Engineer serves as a vital link between the technical and commercial aspects of the business, working closely with the Business Development Lead to support Logan’s wide range of products and services and deliver tailored hydrogen solutions to potential customers. They provide good technical expertise, system designs, and detailed data to support the sales process, ensuring proposed solutions meet customer requirements while adhering to industry standards and regulations. By collaborating with internal teams and leveraging their technical knowledge, the Technical Sales Engineer plays a key role in translating customer needs into practical, efficient, and innovative system proposals that drive business growth and customer satisfaction.

Main Duties

  • Identify new business opportunities, including new markets, new clients, new partnerships or new products and services.
  • Attend conferences and events to build relationships with industry partners and stay up to date with new trends.
  • Act as the technical liaison between the business and customers, understanding their requirements and presenting tailored hydrogen energy solutions.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, ensuring a deep understanding of customer needs and fostering long-term partnerships.
  • Develop detailed technical proposals and presentations that align Logan’s products and services with customer requirements, demonstrating the value and feasibility of the proposed solutions.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to gather input for proposals, ensuring they are accurate, comprehensive, address customer specifications and are technically feasible and competitive.
  • Create detailed responses for tenders and customer Requests for Information (RFI) and Requests for Quotation (RFQ) alongside the Bids & Proposals Engineer.
  • Collaborate with the engineering and design teams to generate detailed application layouts, schematics, and system configurations customised to each customer’s project using established modular design drawings.
  • Research and analyse industry trends, customer preferences, and emerging technologies, to identify new market opportunities for Logan.
  • Generate leads for sales of Logan’s products and services.
  • Prepare and present well-documented and tailored technical proposals and presentations that clearly outline solutions, aligning with customer specifications and needs.
  • Engage with customers to understand operational challenges and propose tailored engineering solutions.
  • Drive sales by addressing technical questions during negotiations and offering insights into industry trends that shape customer decisions.
  • Support lifecycle services including aftermarket, maintenance contracts, and upgrades.
  • Conduct site visits, technical evaluations, and solution reviews with customers.
  • Foster strong relationships with customers, ensuring they remain engaged and confident in the company’s technical expertise and service quality.

Person Specification

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (e.g., Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or Renewable Energy) or a related field.
  • Certification in technical sales, project management (e.g., PMP), or safety standards (e.g., NEBOSH) would be advantageous, but not essential.

Experience

  • Proven experience (3-5 years) in a technical sales or applications engineering role, ideally within hydrogen or biogas compressors, industrial gas, hydrogen or a related industry.
  • Experience in providing technical support or selling maintenance and service support to clients.
  • Demonstrated success in customer engagement, technical proposal development, and sales support.
  • Background in working with regulatory compliance for compressed gas, hazardous environments or energy systems.
  • Proven track record of increasing sales or customer base through technical expertise.
  • Skilled in delivering technical presentations, product demonstrations, and customer training sessions.
  • Proficiency in developing clear and engaging technical documentation.
  • Proficiency in using CRM systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and other sales-related tools.
  • Familiarity with industry regulations such as DSEAR, ATEX, or ISO standards would be advantageous.
  • Skilled in reading and interpreting technical drawings, schematics, and P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams).
