An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Practice Nurse to join our friendly, well-organised, forward thinking practice. We are looking for an experienced Practice Nurse to join our Nursing team working across two sites to provide a high quality service to the practice patients as well as working effectively with other agencies.

This post is for 22.5 to 30 hours per week (7.5 hours a day), worked over 3 to 4 days in line with the operational needs of the practice. The successful candidate will be required to work on Mondays and Fridays. The remaining day(s) will be agreed at interview. The role involves travel between two sites (Lofthouse Surgery, Wakefield and The Manse Surgery, Rothwell) and may include occasional home visits. Applicants must be able to meet the travel requirements of the post.

Main duties of the job
  • Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by Practice Lead Nurse, GPS and Practice Manager.
  • Childhood Immunisations
  • Cervical Cytology
  • Travel Immunisations
  • Dopplers
  • NHS Health Checks
  • Information gathering for chronic disease
  • Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician
  • ECG Recording
  • Vaccine / Cold Chain Storage, monitoring and recording
  • Maintain general tidiness and cleanliness of nurses and treatment rooms
  • Participation in administrative systems in the Practice
  • Attending all training meetings at TARGET or at the practice
  • At all times there will be a need to maintain accurate records
  • A duty to advise senior staff of potential problems or errors within the range of assigned tasks
  • Attend and participate in any Practice meetings when required.
  • Undertake home visits as required by the practice
  • Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post by the Partners or the Practice Manager
Person Specification

Qualifications
  • Registered NMC Nursing Degree
  • Experience of working in General Practice, with good knowledge of Primary Care and the NHS

  • Wound care / removal of sutures and staples
  • Dopplers
  • Immunisations (routine and childhood)
  • Women's health (cervical cytology, contraception etc)
  • ECGs
  • Blood Pressure
  • Ability to record accurate clinical notes

  • Diabetic Foot Checks
Experience
  • Previous experience in a Nursing role (Primary Care desirable).
  • Experience of working in an integrated multi-skilled team.
  • The ability to follow direction and standard operating procedures whilst also using own initiative.
  • The ability to be compassionate at all times.
  • Experience of using a range of IT including knowledge of using SystmOne.
