Senior Architect | Heritage and Conservation | Hybrid | London

Most architects spend a career on buildings that will eventually be knocked down and replaced. This role is on the ones that will not be.

We are currently recruiting for a leading UK architecture practice as they look to strengthen their London studio with multiple experienced Senior Architects.

The practice specialise in historically significant buildings, working across listed civic, cultural, institutional and hospitality projects, mostly mid to large scale, alongside a substantial body of refurbishment, retrofit and public realm work. They have studios across the UK and internationally, and a reputation in conservation that opens doors to commissions most practices never get near.

The opportunity

The projects you would be joining sit at the design stages, before anything reaches site. That matters more than it sounds.

On a listed building the genuinely interesting decisions all happen early: reading what the existing fabric will tolerate, testing options against conservation constraints, working out what a client actually needs from a structure designed for something else entirely a century or two ago, and then negotiating all of it with conservation officers, stakeholders and end users. Join a project at that point and your judgement shapes what the building becomes. Join it two years later and you are detailing somebody else's answer.

This is a role for an ambitious, organised and articulate Project Architect or Senior Architect who wants scale and significance in the same job, with the technical and heritage expertise of the wider practice behind them, and a real route through to Associate for those who want it.

The ideal architect

  • An architect with roughly five to ten years of post Part 3 experience
  • Strong across the early and middle work stages, RIBA 3 to 5 in particular
  • Experience of UK based projects of scale. Heritage, listed, civic, cultural or hospitality work is a real advantage, though appetite for it counts for more than a CV already full of it
  • Organised, personable and confident in front of clients, consultants and stakeholders, because on buildings like these there is never a shortage of any of the three
  • Revit is useful rather than essential, and training can be provided
  • Ambitious, and interested in progressing rather than parking

The package

  • Β£55,000 to Β£60,000, including profit share and bonus
  • Hybrid working, two days per week from home
  • Flexible working hours, which the practice mean rather than simply advertise
  • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays
  • Enhanced parental leave, individual training budgets, professional fees paid and a range of other benefits

The process

Worth saying plainly: this practice have made speed a priority on these roles. Interviews are being arranged quickly and feedback comes back fast, because they are well aware that good architects are not sitting around waiting. Candidates with notice periods of up to three months will be considered.
