Job Purpose
To provide a safe and secure environment for employees, contractors, visitors, vehicles, and company assets within the distribution centre.
The Security Guard is responsible for controlling access to the site, monitoring security systems, carrying out patrols, and responding to incidents while maintaining high standards of customer service and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities
- Control access to the distribution centre by checking identification, delivery documentation, and visitor authorisation.
- Operate the gatehouse and vehicle barriers safely and efficiently.
- Record the arrival and departure of all vehicles, visitors, and contractors.
- Verify delivery and collection paperwork before permitting site entry or exit.
- Issue and recover visitor and contractor passes.
- Conduct vehicle and trailer inspections where required in accordance with company procedures.
- Monitor CCTV and access control systems (if applicable)
- Maintain accurate gatehouse logs, records, and incident reports.
- Provide clear directions and site safety information to drivers and visitors.
- Report any suspicious activity, unauthorised access attempts, or security concerns immediately.
- Carry out regular internal and external security patrols.
- Protect company property, stock, vehicles, and equipment from theft, damage, or unauthorised access.
- Monitor alarm systems and respond appropriately to activations.
- Lock and unlock buildings, gates, and restricted areas as required.
- Respond promptly to emergencies, incidents, accidents, and fire alarms.
- Assist with evacuations and follow emergency procedures.
- Complete detailed incident and occurrence reports.
- Customer Service, provide a professional and courteous service to employees, visitors, contractors, and delivery drivers.
- Deal with enquiries in a helpful and respectful manner.
- Maintain a smart appearance and professional conduct at all times.
- Comply with all company Health & Safety policies and site procedures.
- Report hazards, defects, and unsafe practices.
- Wear the required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Support safe working practices across the distribution centre.
Skills and Experience
- Previous experience in a security role, preferably within a warehouse, logistics, or distribution environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and make sound decisions.
- Good observation and attention to detail.
- Basic IT skills for completing electronic logs and reports.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Qualifications
- Valid Security Industry Authority (SIA) Door Supervisor or Security Guarding Licence (as required).
- First Aid qualification (desirable).
