Our Client, an established environmental consultancy based in Worthing, is seeking an Arboriculture Consultant to join their growing environmental and arboricultural team. The practice provides arboricultural and environmental professional and technical support services for development projects to the private sector, local, and central government. They offer expert advice on arboricultural assessment to ensure that clients clearly understand the impacts of arboricultural value and potential within the planning system and development practice.
You will play a key role in delivering arboricultural services across environmental and planning projects. Your primary responsibility will be to produce arboricultural planning material including Arboricultural Impact Assessments, BS5837 reports, Arboricultural Method Statements, Tree Constraints Plans, and Tree Retention/Removal Plans. You will manage a diverse portfolio of projects from start to finish, supporting the Environmental Practice Director and working closely with the wider environmental team. This includes attending surveys, analysing data, undertaking tree risk assessments, and implementing arboricultural mitigation measures in line with project requirements. As an active member of the regional team, you will present findings at project meetings, provide technical advice on complex planning and development issues, and liaise with clients from pre-planning through to delivery. There will also be opportunities to contribute to business development, client care, and team growth. This role offers hands-on involvement in both arboricultural and ecological consultancy work, with opportunities for career progression and involvement in occasional national projects.
About You
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in arboricultural consultancy.
- Strong BS5837 consultancy skills and understanding of its application within planning.
- Experience mentoring junior team members (desirable).
- Academic qualification in arboriculture or relevant environmental discipline (Level 3 minimum: FdSc Arb, HNC Arb, AA Tech Cert, NDip Arb).
- Working knowledge of arboricultural and wildlife legislation, planning policy, and industry survey methodologies.
- Competent in hazard assessment, identifying pathogens, assessing tree physiology, and preparing technical drawings (AutoCAD/KeyTree).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with excellent report writing ability.
- Good organisational, management, and project/client-handling skills.
- Membership of the Arboricultural Association (TechArborA or higher desirable).
- Positive, enthusiastic, and aligned with company values, with the ability to engage well with clients and colleagues.
- Working towards LANTRA Professional Tree Inspection (PTI) certificate (desirable).
