An internationally recognised architecture and design practice is seeking a Director of Design Technology to lead the evolution of digital design, AI adoption and technology strategy across the business.

This is a rare opportunity to join a design-led practice with a global reputation, working alongside senior leadership to shape how technology supports creativity, collaboration and project delivery.

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in defining digital strategy, embedding emerging technologies and ensuring best practice is adopted across multiple studios.

The Role

Reporting into senior leadership, you will provide strategic direction across design technology, digital workflows and innovation, ensuring technology becomes an integral part of the practice rather than a standalone function.

You will work closely with Partners, Design Directors, IT and Operations to develop a clear vision for digital transformation, champion AI adoption and create scalable systems that improve design quality, project delivery and business performance.

This is a leadership role focused on influencing people, driving change and building a culture of innovation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead the practice-wide Design Technology strategy.
  • Drive the adoption of AI, automation and emerging digital tools across the business.
  • Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary Design Technology team.
  • Establish and maintain BIM, digital delivery and modelling standards.
  • Work collaboratively with design, technical and operational teams to improve workflows.
  • Identify opportunities to automate repetitive processes and improve efficiency.
  • Oversee the implementation of new technologies and digital platforms.
  • Support project teams with complex digital design and delivery challenges.
  • Build strong relationships with senior stakeholders and influence strategic decision-making.
  • Keep the practice at the forefront of industry innovation and emerging technologies.

About You

We're interested in speaking with experienced leaders who combine technical expertise with strategic thinking.

You are likely to have

  • Significant experience within architecture, engineering or multidisciplinary design consultancy.
  • A background leading Design Technology, Digital Design, BIM or Computational Design teams.
  • Strong knowledge of Revit, BIM methodologies and digital project delivery.
  • Experience with computational design tools such as Rhino, Grasshopper or Dynamo.
  • An understanding of AI, automation and digital transformation within design practices.
  • Experience developing standards, processes and best practice across multiple teams.
  • Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • A passion for innovation and improving the way design businesses operate.
