Remote UK or Hybrid working (Edinburgh). Locogen is a renewable energy company where everyone has access to affordable, sustainable energy and clean air. We are looking for a Principal Electrical Engineer to join our growing Engineering team.

About our Principal Electrical Engineer role:

  • Our new Principal Electrical Engineer will play a core role in leading and supporting assessments and decision-making from the early stages of developments, through to managing grid connections and site commissioning.
  • The role would suit an Electrical Engineer, with experience in renewable projects who enjoys writing technical specifications and is comfortable being the final technical sign off on electrical designs.
  • Ideally we would like you to grow and develop an internal electrical engineering team, although we have space for someone who wants to remain technical if you prefer.
  • Write technical specifications for transformers, switchgear, protection systems etc.
  • Review detailed electrical designs and make suggestions for changes (e.g. single line diagrams, protection diagrams, cable sizing, earthing studies, SCADA and equipment specifications).
  • Assess the quality of design and site work on behalf of clients against a specification.
  • Provide on-site monitoring of the electrical construction works (including testing and commissioning) for renewable energy developments.
  • Attend site meetings and surveys.
  • Sign off for all Locogen Electrical Engineering work.
  • Support with client conversations with stakeholders and managing technical queries from contractors.
  • Manage a continuous improvement process for Electrical Engineering and be responsible for the technical capabilities of the electrical engineers within Locogen.
  • Work with the team, providing technical input into electrical engineering FEED for renewable technologies and grid connection applications.
  • Liaise with network operator/contractor/client for the project’s grid connections at both distribution and transmission level, ensuring compliance with UK Grid Code and other regulations.
  • Contribute knowledge of applicable electrical standards and best practice and of key electrical component specifications and current prices.
  • Manage internal and external technical specialists to deliver high quality deliverable projects.

Requirements:

  • Electrical Engineering degree at master level (or above).
  • Strong HV Electrical experience, including power plant, grid connection, earthing, protection, switchgear, power-electronics, power systems design.
  • Current and demonstrable electrical design calculation and specification capabilities.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of Protection equipment requirements associated with transmission, distribution and renewable projects.
  • Demonstrable experience of working on grid connected renewable energy projects.
  • Demonstrable experience working on voltages up to 275kV (400kV would be a bonus).
  • Experience of working in engineering consultancy.
  • Undertaken the Owners Engineer role for utility scale renewable energy projects connected at both distribution and transmission.
  • Experience with BESS co-located projects.

This role can be based in our Stockbridge (Edinburgh) office or can be undertaken in a remote/hybrid capacity depending on where you live. The office is dog friendly, modernly kitted out and has free parking.
