The Lockyer Valley is ideally situated less than one hour’s drive from inner city Brisbane. It straddles the Warrego Highway and covers an area of approximately 2200 sq kms. Lockyer Valley Regional Council is a medium-sized local government organisation which employs more than 320 staff. Council’s office locations are in Railway Street, Gatton and Spicer Street, Laidley, with a Works Depot also located in Gatton.

The Position

Reporting directly to the Mayor, the Chief Executive Officer is the driving force behind Council’s Executive Leadership Team. The position has very broad responsibilities that include:

  • Leading the Executive Leadership Team to develop and implement strategies, and to resource and deliver the organisation’s strategic objectives sustainably and in the public interest.
  • Providing strategic leadership and management across the organisation to achieve Council’s vision and objectives, discharge its functions in accordance with legislation, and provide high quality customer service.
  • Leading the organisation in developing a positive workplace culture that encourages and rewards excellence and supports continuous improvement in service to customers and the community.
  • Translating Council’s strategic direction into practical service delivery through providing inspirational leadership to the organisation in the pursuit of the objectives embodied in Council’s Corporate and Operational plans and by effectively demonstrating at all times the core values, principles and ethical standards embraced by Council.
  • Ensuring highly accountable leadership of the executive team, the provision of timely and quality professional advice to Council in policy and decision-making, resulting in strong and trusting relationships between the organisation and the Councillors.
