Job Title: Transport Co-ordinator
Location: S & R Smith and Son, Essex | Part of the Lockwood Group
Shift: 4 on 4 off, 0600 – 1800
Salary: £36,000
As our business continues to improve the way we operate and expand, we’re looking for an organised and proactive Transport Co-ordinator to join our team based on Hedley Avenue, Grays. You’ll have the chance to work with teams across our 7 sites and will be a key contact for our team of Drivers. If you’re keen to learn, have a level of experience in a transport planning role and enjoy a fast-paced environment, our Transport Co-ordinator role could be for you!
Key Responsibilities
- Efficient vehicle planning and allocations, ensuring all systems are kept accurately updated
- Building of groupage loads across our artic and rigid fleet, looking for ways to continuously improve our groupage operation
- Arranging trailer movements where necessary and working with our Fleet and Compliance Manager, to keep the fleet well maintained
- Ensure productive briefings take place with all drivers and handover teams to ensure the smooth running of all operations
- Respond and monitor email groups, actioning when necessary
- Assisting with the management of the driver diary, making necessary changes to allocated work
- Monitor vehicles to ensure they are on time for delivery slots
- Complete vehicle spot checks to ensure our cabs are kept to our high standards
- To have flexibility within role to cover changes in priority of workload
- Complete general office duties i.e. dealing with incoming telephone queries, filing, and dealing with any associated queries
- To be aware of all Health and Safety issues relating to the post and to ensure compliance with the Company’s Health and Safety Policy and associated procedures and guidance
Requirements
- Proactive mind‑set with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Experience in a transport environment, ideally a previous planning role
- Local area knowledge is preferred, but not essential
- Strong organisational and multitasking skills
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Ability to work closely with our Driver teams
