Senior Quantity Surveyor - Transmission & Distribution (Energy)

Full-Time No working from home possible
LOCKROSE
Description

LOCKROSE is seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to support the delivery of major infrastructure programmes within the energy sector.

This is a client-side role offering a genuine opportunity to step beyond traditional Quantity Surveying into a strategic commercial leadership position, influencing how complex projects are commercially managed, assured, and delivered within a highly regulated environment.

Working across a portfolio of high-value projects, you will play a key role in driving commercial performance, ensuring contractual compliance, and challenging supply chain delivery to achieve best value outcomes.

This role is ideally suited to a Senior Quantity Surveyor looking to transition into a more influential, advisory-led position with broader exposure across project and programme environments.

The Opportunity

  • Work on nationally significant infrastructure projects within a regulated sector
  • Influence commercial strategy and decision-making, not just reporting
  • Gain exposure across a portfolio of projects, rather than a single-site role
  • Play a key role in ensuring value for money and supply chain performance
  • Operate within a structured and governance-driven delivery environment

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a client-side commercial lead across a portfolio of infrastructure projects
  • Provide commercial assurance and governance over contractor delivery and contract performance
  • Administer and manage NEC3/NEC4 contracts, ensuring compliance with contractual processes and obligations
  • Assess and manage Compensation Events, including evaluation of entitlement, programme impact, and commercial consequences
  • Challenge contractor submissions including variations, applications for payment, and programme updates
  • Review and interpret project programmes, working closely with planning teams to assess delay, risk, and commercial impact
  • Support the management of Early Warning processes, ensuring risks are captured, mitigated, and reflected in commercial strategy
  • Provide clear, data-driven commercial insights and reporting to project and programme stakeholders
  • Work collaboratively with project management, engineering, and planning teams to support effective decision-making
  • Ensure robust cost control, forecasting, and financial governance across assigned projects
  • Contribute to the development of commercial best practice, standardisation, and continuous improvement

Requirements

About You

  • Proven experience operating at Senior Quantity Surveyor level or above within infrastructure, energy, utilities, or similarly regulated environments
  • Strong working knowledge of NEC contracts (NEC3/NEC4), particularly in post-contract delivery
  • Experience assessing Compensation Events, variations, and contractual entitlement
  • Ability to confidently challenge contractors and influence commercial outcomes
  • Strong understanding of project delivery, cost management, and programme interfaces
  • Experience working within a regulated or highly governed environment (e.g. utilities, rail, water, energy)
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills across technical and commercial teams
  • Comfortable working across multiple projects simultaneously

Essential:

  • HNC / Degree in Quantity Surveying, Engineering, or related discipline
  • Strong NEC contract experience (administration and commercial application)
  • Experience within a regulated environment (e.g. utilities, infrastructure, energy, rail)
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel

Desirable:

  • Experience working client-side or within a consultancy environment
  • Exposure to large-scale infrastructure or utility programmes
  • Understanding of programme-level commercial management and governance structures
  • Chartered or working towards MRICS (RICS) or MInstCES (CICES)

Benefits
  • Competitive salary
  • Performance-based bonus
  • Pension scheme
  • Generous annual leave and paid time off
  • Professional development and training support
  • Company car or travel allowance
  • Hybrid/flexible working options
