Lockleaze Sports Centre is looking for an energetic, passionate and community-focused Youth & Community Sport Engagement Developer to help grow and deliver #ActiveLSC — our flagship outreach programme supporting children, young people and families across North Bristol. This exciting role will use sport, physical activity and community engagement to improve wellbeing, reduce inequalities and create positive opportunities for disadvantaged and underrepresented young people.
You will work directly with schools, youth organisations, community groups and families to deliver engaging activities, build trusted relationships and create pathways into sustained participation. The role includes delivering activities such as multi-sport sessions, holiday programmes and inclusive community engagement projects, including work with disadvantaged and marginalised communities.

About #ActiveLSC
#ActiveLSC is our flagship community outreach and engagement programme designed to increase participation in sport and physical activity amongst underrepresented and disadvantaged communities. The programme works directly with schools, community organisations, families and local partners to provide accessible, structured and positive opportunities for children and young people. The Youth & Community Sport Engagement Developer will play a central role in delivering and growing this work across Lockleaze, Horfield and the wider North Bristol area.
Purpose of the Role
To design, coordinate and deliver high-quality sport, physical activity and education programmes that engage disadvantaged and underrepresented children, young people and families. The postholder will build trusted relationships within the community, create pathways into sustained participation and support positive outcomes linked to health, wellbeing, confidence and community connection.
Key Responsibilities
- Community Outreach & Engagement
- Develop strong partnerships with primary and secondary schools, early years settings, community organisations, faith groups, youth services, and refugee and asylum seeker support organisations.
- Engage children and families who face barriers to participation.
- Promote inclusive access to sport and physical activity.
- Build positive relationships with local residents and stakeholders.
- Programme Delivery
- Deliver engaging sport and physical activity sessions across community settings and at Lockleaze Sports Centre.
- Coordinate and support delivery of activities including multi-sport programmes, holiday provision, and community engagement sessions.
- Integrate personal development themes including confidence building, teamwork, leadership, healthy lifestyles, and social inclusion.
- Ensure sessions are safe, inclusive and accessible for all participants.
- Pathway Development
- Support participants into sustained participation opportunities.
- Create progression routes into sports clubs, leadership opportunities, volunteering, and education and training pathways.
- Work collaboratively with partner organisations to strengthen local activity networks.
- Safeguarding & Wellbeing
- Maintain a safe and positive environment for all participants.
- Work closely with schools and partners to identify young people requiring additional support.
- Contribute to diversionary work that reduces exposure to anti-social behaviour, exploitation and social isolation.
- Follow all safeguarding policies and procedures.
- Monitoring & Evaluation
- Maintain accurate participation records.
- Collect impact data and participant feedback.
- Support production of reports for funders and partners.
- Contribute case studies and evidence of impact.
- General Responsibilities
- Represent Lockleaze Sports Centre professionally at all times.
- Attend meetings, training and community events as required.
- Support wider organisational activities and events.
- Work flexibly including evenings, weekends and school holidays where required.
- Undertake any other duties and responsibilities reasonably required to support the operational, strategic and community needs of Lockleaze Sports Centre.
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
- Experience working with children and young people.
- Experience delivering sport, physical activity and youth programmes.
- Experience working with disadvantaged or underrepresented communities.
- Experience building partnerships and community relationships.
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Understanding of safeguarding responsibilities.
- Ability to engage and motivate young people.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good organisational and administrative skills.
- Commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
Qualifications
- Level 2 coaching qualification or equivalent relevant youth/community qualification.
- Safeguarding certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain).
Desirable Criteria
- Multi-sport coaching experience.
- Experience working with disadvantaged and/or marginalised communities.
- First Aid qualification.
- Relevant youth/community qualification.
- Experience managing volunteers.
- Knowledge of the Bristol community/charity sector.
- Full UK driving licence.
