Lockheed Martin (UK) Ampthill is a rapidly changing, dynamic part of the Lockheed Martin Corporation with both domestic and international customers. It consists of business areas focusing on Platform Integration, Ground Based Air Defence, Special Projects and Weapons, which provide a variety of products and services to the Ministry of Defence and other customers. We are looking for an experienced Senior Project Controller to join our team based in Ampthill, Bedfordshire. The role benefits from our 4xFlex working pattern, offering a 4‑day week Monday‑Thursday and hybrid working with onsite days Monday and Tuesday, and the remaining days worked from home subject to business needs.
Responsibilities
- Budget and manage the resource requirements on projects and programmes, including developing estimates at early and at completion, and planning resource allocation across activities.
- Raise purchase requisitions.
- Produce executive‑grade dashboards and narrative‑rich presentations for board and customer steering committees, turning complex data into actionable insights.
- Consolidate data and analysis for Control Account Managers for review and approval.
- Review supplier quotes against the plan to manage material forecasts.
- Lead the monthly variance analysis reporting cycle, preparing variance at completion information and corrective actions, and work with stakeholders to realign work to baseline and budgets.
- Report and present financial data to the Project Manager, highlighting issues that may impact schedule or cost.
- Coordinate with Programme Finance and the Project Manager to ensure all programmes’ budgets are fully planned and that customer and business requirements are met.
- Assist in the preparation of bids and proposals, ensuring they meet customer requirements.
- Assist in the preparation and delivery of executive presentation panel reviews.
- Drive the baseline change control process; author formal change requests and cascade updates to all stakeholders.
- Monitor and control risks and opportunities within the scope of work and request timely drawdown of reserves with justification.
- Monitor the Project Manager’s reserves and plan usage, requesting approval when required.
- Own the weekly, monthly and ad‑hoc business rhythm and cadence for the team.
- Analyse actuals versus plan for deployed personnel, highlighting challenges to the Project Manager.
- Check resource levels and smoothness based on staff availability/deployment using the Resource Management Tool.
- Help find better ways to generate information for the team (Tableau, Fuse, P6, PowerPoint) and drive adoption of a single source of truth.
- Generate and deliver P6‑driven insights to Control Account Managers, Finance and Programme steering, translating performance into strategic decisions.
Qualifications
- Experience as a Project Controller, Project Analyst or similar role in a PMO environment.
- Defence sector experience preferred, or similar engineering environment.
- Strong analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and translate insights into effective actions.
- Working knowledge of and experience in SAP cost planning and reporting.
- Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to quickly adapt to new tools, systems and processes.
- Ability to work with a technical and skill‑diverse team.
- Senior stakeholder engagement experience.
- Understanding of business finance including orders, sales, EBIT and cash, and the importance of managing and controlling programmes to achieve financial outcomes.
- Experience in development, maintenance and control of complex event‑driven project plans and their impact on budgets and financial performance.
- Must achieve the appropriate level (SC) of security clearance.
