The Assistant Shop Manager supports the Shop Manager by overseeing the retail team in their absence, ensuring the store operates smoothly and efficiently. This role involves driving sales, motivating the retail team, leading by example, and consistently maintaining the highest standards of customer service.
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, full time and permanent (9-5:30pm)
Salary: Based on experience, up to £32k, plus monthly bonus scheme after probationary period. We are closed on Sundays and bank holidays.
- Ensure the shop is opened promptly each day, including preparing the till with the correct float and monitoring team punctuality and attendance.
- Oversee all cleaning procedures to maintain an immaculate shop environment in line with company standards.
- Conduct daily checks to ensure sufficient stock of essential supplies, including bags, boxes, stationery, and packaging materials.
- Communicate daily and weekly sales performance updates to the retail team, both verbally and through internal groups, to drive engagement and performance.
- Effectively delegate tasks across the retail team to maximise productivity and operational efficiency.
- Support and guide our Hatters and Stylists in identifying sales opportunities and delivering exceptional customer service, while promptly and professionally resolving any customer concerns.
- Liaise closely with the Shop Manager, or Assistant Shop Manager for Ladieswear in their absence, regarding day-to-day operations, including staffing, sales, and stock management.
- Ensure all end-of-day procedures are completed accurately, including cash handling, reconciliation of tills and PDQ systems, and secure storage of funds. Any discrepancies must be reported to the Shop Manager and our Finance team immediately.
- Oversee the secure closing of the store, including shutting down equipment, setting alarms, and locking the premises.

- To unite the men’s, women’s and millinery functions into a cohesive team.
This position is full time, permanent, and based in our shop in St. The working hours are 9:00-5:30pm, Monday to Saturday. You will be required to work 5 out of 6 days on a Rota basis.
