Head of Technical (Marine Insurance) in Slough

Founded in 1987, Lochain Patrick, a division of Burns & Wilcox Global Solutions, is a highly respected, expert and experienced leading firm of insurance brokers. From our base, close to Lloyd’s in the City of London, we operate globally in a retail and wholesale capacity in our chosen specialisms of marine, energy and related insurances.

We are looking to hire a Head of Technical for our Marine Team. This role will be responsible for managing and overseeing the work of the members of the technical team (8 people), to ensure an efficient day-to-day service to the company’s clients and underwriters. It will also provide technical support and documentation to brokers and clients in relation to all classes of marine insurance. This role will also develop the requirements for and drive the adoption of new digital technologies/systems and will develop processes to improve service and capabilities to clients.

Responsibilities

• Manage, coordinate and oversee workload, ensuring smooth operation of team;
• Lead, review and drive the adoption of new systems and technology on behalf of the Marine team;
• Monitor quality of work produced and ensure all client needs, operational procedures and timescales are achieved;
• Set and monitor standards of performance to the team and undertake any remedial action required;
• Coaching, training and development of staff (existing and new) to achieve and maintain competency levels expected for the classes of business being handled and to maintain continuous professional development, in order to maximise staff potential;
• Continuously develop and review to improve the efficiency of the technical team, introducing new tools or leveraging existing capabilities;
• Ensure company procedures are followed, in order to adhere with both quality standards and compliance regulation, in accordance with their authority;

Senior Technician

• Production of brokers documentation in accordance with client requirements and broker instruction;
• Production of client documentation in accordance with terms agreed with the Underwriter;
• To handle client enquiries by telephone, correspondence or email in a timely fashion;
• Maintain proper files and records;
• To obtain a good working knowledge of the companies systems and contributing to their development and adoption for the Marine technicians team;
• To take responsibility for the day to day management of workloads and the meeting of deadlines;
• To comply at all times with the companies policies and procedures;
• To understand and implement market initiatives;
• To provide assistance to other departments when necessary (e.g. Accounts and Claims);
• To oversee team member(s).

Experience required

• Good knowledge of Marine insurance and the London Markets.
• Previous experience of managing a technical team and being the point of escalation for any queries/issues.
• Previous experience of using Global XB, Novidea, Whitespace, PPL and Sharepoint.
• Experience of working in a firm that is growing and developing.
• An understanding of FCA regulations and guidelines, as appropriate.
