Data Engineer and Service Improvement Analyst
We have an exciting opportunity for a Data Engineer & Service Improvement Analyst to join our team at Lexicon House in Leeds.
This key role is part of the Management Information Team.
What the Role Offers
As a core member of the Management Information Team, you will act as the first point of contact for performance and business reporting needs.
Your responsibilities will include designing, developing, and delivering complex regular and ad‑hoc analysis for operational, corporate, internal, and external reporting.
You will manage databases, data pipelines, and storage systems to ensure data accuracy, reliability, and accessibility.
Your role will also involve presenting complex analysis to senior managers and diverse audiences, resolving data issues, and supporting the development of reporting systems.
Additionally, you will identify and implement AI and automation opportunities to improve processes across services.
Pay rates: £45,000 to £54,000, dependent on skill and experience.
Hours & Working Pattern: Fixed‑term contract for two years, Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 17:00.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Act as the primary contact for business and reporting requirements.
- Work with operational and corporate directorates to design, develop, and provide regular and ad‑hoc highly complex analysis reports.
- Support operational and resource management, business planning, and external and internal reporting, ensuring the accuracy of outgoing information.
- Create and manage databases, data pipelines, and data storage systems, maintaining high data quality.
- Present highly complex, specialist analysis to senior managers and explain report findings, resolving any data issues.
- Drive the future development of the organisation’s business and performance reporting procedures and systems.
- Identify and implement AI and automation solutions to streamline manual systems and working practices.
About You
- Educated to postgraduate level.
- Demonstrable experience in data engineering and analysis, working independently without day‑to‑day direction.
- Experience in information extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) and data analysis.
- Experience in NHS environments and with NHS patient systems such as Systm One and Out of Hour data sets.
- Proficiency in data store platforms, data modelling, and schema design.
- Experience with T‑SQL, Azure, and data pipelines.
- Knowledge of pattern recognition, predictive techniques, data‑driven decision making, and artificial intelligence.
- Hands‑on experience designing and developing AI‑powered solutions and automations (e. g., chatbots, analytic systems).
- Advanced skills in MS Office Excel, Power Query, Power BI, SQL, Azure data environment, and Python.
- Strong reporting writing, interpretation, and presentation skills.
- Ability to analyse and interpret complex performance data, present findings, and identify actions for improving service performance.
- Proficiency in using AI to create intelligent data platforms.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workloads to meet changing demands.
- Experience in submitting data to ECDS, CSDS, and faster data flows.
- Experience in building and maintaining data warehouses.
- Practical experience with automated schema coding.
