Local Care Direct is a non‑profit Social Enterprise operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, to provide primary and urgent health care services across West Yorkshire. We have Part‑Time Driver positions available in the Calderdale & Kirklees area working various shifts during the out of hours period, driving the Doctor to home visits (or other premises) and for patient transport when required.
All Drivers are responsible to the Out of Hours or Duty Team Manager for driving the Duty Doctor to home visits and to other premises, and for patient transport when needed. You will be required to drive the Duty Doctor to patient homes within the West Yorkshire area. You will support the Duty Doctor with administrative tasks and the control of drugs to enable them to perform their duties satisfactorily. The purpose of this role is to ensure the smooth running of the LCD Mobile Area Operation across West Yorkshire and Craven, whilst working together with the Bradley Hub Controllers and Mobile Clinicians.
All Drivers are responsible for the safety of the vehicle, themselves and their clinician when conducting home visits. Additional duties include transporting patients from home to clinic and driving tasks as directed by the Duty Manager.
Responsibilities- Work with the designated clinician on shift to ensure all home visits are received and completed within the allocated timeframe.
- Maintain a professional relationship with Controller and Duty Manager at the Bradley Hub.
- Drive the LCD Doctors Vehicle in a safe controlled and calm manner, observing local speed limits and prevailing road conditions.
- Ensure that all procedures around the checking and preparation of the doctors vehicle are completed prior to commencement of shift.
- Ensure that the mandatory protocols around the movement of controlled drugs are always adhered to.
- Maintain general movement and safety of drug formulary, prescriptions, medical equipment and consumables in line with process and procedure.
- Assist the clinician in any tasks he/she believes to be appropriate to your capability.
- Ensure that the clinician has all the information and available equipment to fulfil his/her role.
- Ensure patient confidentiality is always adhered to.
- Maintain the cleanliness of your vehicle and its contents in line with Infection, Prevention and Control Guidelines.
- Complete relevant driver documentation in line with procedure and process.
- Ensure the safety and good working order of allocated vehicle and report any faults to the Duty Manager.
- Ensure that your work environment is safe and that any potential hazards/problems are reported via datix.
- Ensure all relevant documentation is completed by the appropriate person with regards to management and access of drugs, equipment and prescription.
- Manage and report stock shortages of consumables, medication, equipment to Duty Manager/Area Teams for replenishment.
- Highlight any operational concerns to the Duty Manager.
- Support new starters with shadow sessions.
- Work to Standard Operating Procedures at all times.
- Working flexibly such as working at another location or different role to support the business needs on occasions.
- Maintain a valid smartcard and adhere to information governance rules.
- Maintain and use own LCD email account for purpose of receiving communications and updates.
- For patient transport duties – Collect patients from their home address and transport to their appointment, and from appointment to their home address.
- Have an awareness of CQC and its purpose and support the Organisations continued registration in doing so.
- Ensure regular contact with the Contact Centre at start, finish and during session.
- Driving licence with 3 points or less.
- Pass a medical to Group/Class 1 standard within 3 months of commencing employment.
- GCSE 4 or equivalent in Maths and English.
- Extensive (5 years plus) driving experience in a manual vehicle.
- Frequent motorway and city driving experience.
- Working in a 24/7 environment.

Health, Safety & Security: To report any accidents, complaints, defects in equipment, near misses and untoward incidents, following company procedures. Ensure compliance with Health and Safety at Work regulations in line with LCD Health and Safety Policy.
Communications & Relationships: Ensure LCD e‑mails are checked regularly to maintain up to date knowledge in respect of change of processes and procedures. Attend internal meetings and training sessions as required.
Patient Care: To ensure that the quality of patient care is firmly at the centre of the organisations objectives and vision. To ensure the management and monitoring of the highest standards or safety and quality in the delivery of healthcare and related services and manage risk within Local Care Direct.
Confidentiality: To operate and ensure the team operates within information governance and GDPR protocols and that business confidentiality is always maintained.
Training: To complete the defined company induction programme and core training for this role and refresher training is completed within mandatory deadline. It is individual driver responsibility to ensure training modules are always completed prior to expiry.
Infection Prevention and Control: Healthcare workers have a duty of care to patients and are expected to comply fully with the companies Infection Prevention and Control (IP&C) policies and attend/complete IP&C training.
Safeguarding: Individuals have a duty of care to children and vulnerable adults that they come into contact with whilst at work to safeguard and promote their welfare and to work to prevent, recognise, respond, appropriately refer and record potential neglect or abuse, adhering to the companys Safeguarding Children and Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults policies and procedures.
Managing Self: Ensure that all Driver health and licence checks are complied with. Ensure that Basic Life Support and First Aid Training is always up to date. Wear clothing that meets LCD dress Code requirements. Adhere to rules documented in the Staff Handbook and Code of Conduct. Understand the LCD Way of Working and adhere to Company Values at all times. Effectively utilise time management, organisational, co‑ordination and if required - management skills. Identify own professional development needs through the Personal Development Review process (PDR).
