The Opportunity

LOBA Group is proud to be partnering with a leading international engineering and consultancy business to recruit a Principal Fire Engineer to join its expanding Fire Engineering team. This is an outstanding opportunity to work on some of the UK's most prestigious and technically challenging projects across the built environment, infrastructure and transportation sectors. You'll be part of a highly respected multidisciplinary team, delivering innovative fire engineering solutions from concept design through to project completion. The Role

As a Principal Fire Engineer, you'll provide expert fire engineering advice across a broad range of projects while supporting multidisciplinary design teams throughout the design process. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Producing Fire Safety Strategy reports for a wide variety of developments.
  • Undertaking Means of Escape assessments, including evacuation calculations, travel distance analysis and escape route design.
  • Providing technical advice in line with Approved Document B, BS9999, BS7974, BS9991, BB100, HTM 05 and other relevant fire safety guidance.
  • Supporting fire engineering input across building, infrastructure and transportation projects.
  • Undertaking Third Party Reviews and Design Verification.
  • Participating in client, project and multidisciplinary design meetings.
  • Assisting with Fire Risk Assessments across multiple sectors.
  • Applying performance-based fire engineering principles to complex projects.
  • Supporting technical proposals, bids and business development activities.
  • Working collaboratively with architects, engineers, project managers and external stakeholders to deliver compliant, practical fire safety solutions.

About You

We're looking to speak with experienced Fire Engineers who enjoy solving complex engineering challenges and working within multidisciplinary design environments. Ideally you'll have:

  • A degree in Fire Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Physics, Mathematics or another relevant technical discipline.
  • Strong experience delivering Fire Engineering consultancy services on complex building projects.
  • A thorough understanding of UK fire safety legislation and guidance, including Approved Document B, BS9999, BS7974 and related standards.
  • Experience producing Fire Strategy reports and Means of Escape assessments.
  • Knowledge of fire engineering principles including smoke movement, fire dynamics and evacuation modelling.
  • Experience undertaking Design Reviews and Third Party Verification.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present technical solutions to clients and project teams.
  • Chartered Engineer status, or actively working towards Chartership, would be highly advantageous.

The following experience would also be beneficial:

  • Building Safety Act 2022.
  • PAS 9980 and EWS1 assessments.
  • Façade fire safety.
  • Rail fire safety standards and infrastructure projects.
  • ALARP and Hazard Identification methodologies.
  • Fire modelling software including FDS, PyroSim, SMARTFIRE or CFAST.
  • Fire Risk Assessments.
  • CSCS Card.
  • Ability to obtain UK Security Clearance.
