The Opportunity
LOBA Group is delighted to be partnering with a leading international design, engineering and consultancy business to recruit an experienced CDM Principal Designer & Construction Safety Consultant. This is an exciting opportunity to join an established and growing Design & Construction Safety team, delivering Principal Designer services across some of the UK's most technically challenging and high-profile projects. Working alongside multidisciplinary teams of architects, engineers and technical specialists, you'll play a key role in embedding health and safety into the design process, ensuring compliance with CDM 2015 while influencing projects from concept through to completion. You'll work across a diverse portfolio including commercial, infrastructure, public sector, industrial, utilities and major development projects, with genuine opportunities for career progression and exposure to complex schemes.
The Role
As a CDM Principal Designer & Construction Safety Consultant, you will be responsible for providing expert health and safety advice throughout the design lifecycle. Key responsibilities include:
- Delivering Principal Designer services in accordance with CDM 2015.
- Advising clients, designers and contractors on their statutory duties and responsibilities.
- Undertaking design reviews and promoting the Principles of Prevention.
- Reviewing and developing Designers' Risk Assessments.
- Preparing and collating Pre-Construction Information.
- Producing and reviewing Health & Safety Files.
- Carrying out site inspections, design audits and compliance reviews.
- Assessing contractor safe systems of work and construction methodologies.
- Supporting multidisciplinary design teams on complex engineering and building projects.
- Liaising with clients, contractors, planning authorities, the Health & Safety Executive, Environment Agency, Network Rail and other key stakeholders.
- Delivering CDM workshops and knowledge-sharing sessions.
- Building long-term client relationships and identifying opportunities to support future projects.
About You
We’re keen to speak with professionals who have experience delivering CDM Principal Designer services within the built environment or engineering sectors. Ideally you’ll have:
- A degree, diploma or qualification within Engineering, Architecture, Construction or a related discipline.
- Membership of a recognised professional institution such as ICE, CIOB, RIBA, IMechE or similar.
- NEBOSH Construction Certificate or Diploma (or equivalent).
- Membership of APS, IOSH or another recognised health & safety body.
- Around 3-7 years' experience delivering CDM services on building or engineering projects.
- Strong understanding of CDM 2015 Regulations.
- Experience carrying out design risk reviews and influencing design teams.
- Knowledge of construction site safety, risk assessments, inspections and safe systems of work.
- Experience reviewing contractor compliance and undertaking audits.
- Excellent communication skills with the confidence to challenge and influence project teams.
- Knowledge of Building Regulations would be advantageous.
