We are seeking a detail-oriented and commercially astute Legal Compliance Officer to join our Compliance team. This role is suited to a legally qualified candidate (LLB, LPC, or Solicitor) with strong experience across UK regulatory frameworks and hands-on exposure to legal advisory work within the consumer credit sector.

The successful candidate will play an important role combining legal advisory and compliance oversight, supporting the interpretation and application of laws and regulations, while ensuring robust compliance frameworks are embedded across the business.

Key Responsibilities
  • Draft, review, and advise on a wide range of legal and compliance documentation, including policies, procedures, customer terms, and internal governance documents.
  • Provide legal advice to the business on regulatory requirements, contractual matters, and risk exposure, particularly within the consumer credit space.
  • Interpret and apply relevant legislation, including FCA rules, consumer credit laws, and data protection requirements, into practical business solutions.
  • Assist in developing, reviewing, and maintaining compliance policies and procedures in line with UK regulatory requirements.
  • Support internal audits, compliance reviews, and regulatory investigations, including legal input where required.
  • Investigate and manage financial crime matters, including fraud cases, ensuring appropriate legal analysis, escalation, and resolution.
  • Review and advise on customer complaints and disputes, including potential legal exposure and escalation pathways.
  • Liaise with external counsel on complex legal matters, litigation, or regulatory enquiries where necessary.
  • Maintain accurate legal and compliance records, including documentation of advice, decisions, and regulatory interactions.
Key Requirements
  • Essential: Law degree (LLB or equivalent), LPC or qualified solicitor is essential.
  • 3 - 6 years’ experience in a compliance, legal, or regulatory role.
  • Strong knowledge of UK regulatory frameworks, including FCA requirements, consumer credit law, AML, fraud, and data protection.
  • Demonstrable experience providing legal advice within a regulated environment.
  • Experience working within an in-house legal/compliance team.
  • Ability to interpret complex legal and regulatory requirements and translate them into clear, practical guidance.
  • Strong drafting skills for legal and policy documentation.
  • Excellent analytical, organisational, and communication skills.
  • Desirable: Experience within financial services, fintech, or consumer finance.
  • Familiarity with FCA Handbook provisions relevant to consumer credit firms.
  • Experience with compliance monitoring tools and regulatory reporting systems.
  • Knowledge of dispute resolution processes and handling regulatory complaints.
  • Understanding of risk management and corporate governance frameworks.

Working Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm. The role requires on-site attendance for 2–3 days per week.
